Several problems: Effexor (venlafaxine) may be used to treat depression or anxiety. Alcohol may make depression worse and may hinder one's ability to cope w/ anxiety. Also, i worry about people who are afraid to "give up alcohol" or can't see themselves never taking a drink again. Why would you want to potentially sabotage your treatment for a drink? ...Read more

Best To Avoid: Celexa (citalopram) is an antidepressant and alcohol is a depressant. Common sense tells us to avoid alcohol while treating depression, otherwise one agent will cancel the other. I have always considered alcohol the "original medication". It calms you, gives you confidence, stimulates you and puts you to sleep and can even be unused as an antiseptic. If you are unable to stop drinking talk to your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not a great combo: As a rough rule of thumb, Effexor (venlafaxine) will double the effects of alcohol, and alcohol will double the side effects of effexor (venlafaxine). So the best recommendation is skip the alcohol. At the very least, keep this formula in mind. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Going from 60mg Prozac to 50mg of pristiq (desvenlafaxine). How long before I feel full benefits of pristiq (desvenlafaxine)?
Medications effects: I understand your need for improvement in depression for which you have taken Prozac (fluoxetine). Thank you for information about use of Morphine. Using Prozac (fluoxetine) with Morphine may increase dizziness, some impairment in thinking and judgment. Please do not withdraw from high dose of 60mg/day Prozac (fluoxetine) quickly due to risk of severe side effects. See a Psychiatrist for gradual withdrawal, and then discuss Prisitiq. ...Read more
Can i drink and/or smoke marijuana while on effexor (venlafaxine)? I switched from 200mg Zoloft to 75mg Effexor (venlafaxine) just yesterday for anxiety cuz Zoloft wasnt working
MAYBE: If you are on medications check with your own physician about using alcohol. Lexapro (escitalopram) is an antidepressant and Klonopin is for anxiety. Alcohol is a depressant and is cross tolerant with Klonopin so it is additive in other words. If you truly drank only one regular size beer once in a while it may be alright but do not drive and do not drink and take the medications at the same time. ...Read more
Is it ok to stop pristiq (desvenlafaxine) 50mg abruptly and start 10mg of cipralex. I've only been on pristiq (desvenlafaxine) for 8 weeks. I took cipralex before that.
You can still get: discontinuation syndrome even if you start another antidepressant. Thus, recomend that Pristiq be tapered under medical supervision. Per Drugs.Com - discontinuation syndrome may occur when Pristiq is abruptly stopped & it can lead to dizziness, nausea, headache, irritability, insomnia, diarrhea, anxiety, fatigue, abnormal dreams, & hyperhidrosis. Bupropion wt gain?: Bupropion is an antidepressant not likely to cause weight gain vs. SSRI's (eg. Prozac and Paxil). That said, weight gain is reported as an uncommon side effect of bupropion. If weight gain continues on Prozac, would consider Effexor. Discuss with prescribing doctor. Meantime, eat healthy foods, exercise regularly and keep track of your weight. I hope this helps. Best wishes. ...Read more

You may lower blood pressure too much (your Rx mix already can do it) and you may be dizzy, faint or make errors - do not drive! Try to find a better way to enjoy yourself. ...Read more
