Any food or drinks to reduce ovarian cysts?

Low carbohydrate: Ovarian cysts are often a part of what is known as metabolic syndrome. That is a condition where the body cannot handle the amount of carbohydrates being consumed. Keep in mind that carbs are only used for fuel, and the average person only needs about 100 grams per day. A 12oz soda has about 30 grams and so do 2 pieces of bread. Most people eat much more than they need. ...Read more

When are women most likely to have ovarian cyst?

When are women most likely to have ovarian cyst?

Anytime: During reproductive age cysts are very common. Most women would have something considered a cyst at least once per year but would never know unless an x-ray test was performed due to pain. Often though the pain is completely separate from the cyst. The follicle (a cyst) that is the growing egg each month grows to 2-3 cm and ruptures each month. Cyst rupture is normal! Cysts unusually cause pain. ...Read more

My little sister found out she has ovarian cysts. Are they harmful?

My little sister found out she has ovarian cysts. Are they harmful?

Probably not: For women who are still in their reproductive age range, and not on some form of hormonal suppression (birth control), the normal job of the ovaries is to produce eggs every month, and the eggs develop in cysts. So, many ovarian cysts are normal, functional (healthy-even!). If one has pain and a larger than 'normal' cyst is found, or if it is 'complex'-f/u sono &labs can check if it may b harmful. ...Read more

Can an ovarian cyst of this size (10 cm), eventually resolve itself?

EXTREMELY unlikely: I would almost say 100% no. That size of a cyst is too large to resolve itself, and should be removed surgically, due to the risks of it being a tumor (need to rule out malignancy) and due to the risk of torsion (where the ovary twists around it's artery and vein, cuts off the blood supply to it and causes severe pain). Sorry, but you really need to have surgery to remove it. ...Read more
