Can i "drink" alcohol with swimmers ear?

Can i "drink" alcohol with swimmers ear?

Swimmers ear: Your question is a good one, but it's a little confusing. It's confusing because there is a medical condition called swimmers ear and there is an ear drop by same name. The ear drop, interestingly, is an alcohol-based ear drop, but it's a different kind of alcohol than you would drink. Bottom line, whether you're using swimmers ear drops or just suffering with the ear condition, okay to drink. ...Read more

For the last two month alcohol consumption has been causing ear pain and swollen cervical nodes. One drink is all it takes.

For the last two month alcohol consumption has been causing ear pain and swollen cervical nodes. One drink is all it takes.

Not sure why: I asked one of my ENT colleagues if he had seen this, and he said he had not. I don't know why alcohol would do this, and it may actually be some kind of allergic reaction. It seems, though, that you keep trying to test it, so it would appear that drinking is important to you. I would see your pcp, and an ENT consultation (ears, nose&throat) might be necessary. Talk to your doctor about drinking. ...Read more

When I drink alcohol, my head/vision spins really easily, even when I'm not drunk. Why?

Hard to say: You say you're having physical reactions to alcohol as if you're drunk although you're not. Many physical factors could be contributing to this reaction. My head hurts when i drink alcohol, why?

Blood vessel dilated: alcohol both directly and via a metabolite causes blood vessels to dilate, particularly in skin but also in the brain. The metabolite that does this, acetaldehyde, is poorly metabolized by some people, who tend to get both skin flushing and headaches, and even dizziness and fainting from low blood pressure. This is more common in Asians and Native Americans, but can occur in others. Stop drinking. ...Read more

I have a hematoma on my head, its been 4 days since the fall. Can i drink alcohol?

Hard to say: Did your use of alcohol having anything to do with your having a fall? I have a considerable bias because of my line of work in chemical dependency treatment, but it has been my experience that when ANYBODY asks if they can drink alcohol after (take your pick) surgery, antibiotics, an accident etc etc etc., I wonder about how important alcohol is in their lives, and whether its already a problem. ...Read more

When i drink alcohol nowadays my head hurts.. Could I have become allergic to it?

When i drink alcohol nowadays my head hurts.. Could I have become allergic to it?

It's not "allergy": Allergy really means activity of our immune system, and that isn't what this is. Alcohol causes headaches in MANY people, and sometimes the reaction is not only from the alcohol but other substances in the beverage, like nitrates in wines. People with migraine are often highly sensitive to these effects and may routinely get headache. Stop or cut down, talk to your doctor. ...Read more

I had post concussion for 3 weeks after a bump to head. im now feeling ok for 2 days, is it ok to drink alcohol in 2 more days?

No: Alcohol is a poison and it never did any body any good. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more

While : While there is probably no scientific proof that alcohol in moderation (that is, one or two servings -- a serving of alcohol is about 1 oz. Of liquor, 4 oz. Of wine, or 8 oz of beer) is harmful after major symptoms of a concussion have passed, it may be better to be safe than sorry. Things like memory loss suggest that a brain injury was more than just mild. An injured brain may be more sensitive to smaller doses of alcohol, with unpredictable results. Every one who drinks needs a sober companion (a "designated driver") and this may also be a good reason to pass on the alcohol this time around. The evidence is clear on the importance of reducing the risk of a second head injury. Wear a helmet for activities that involve a chance of concussion. Don't reuse a helmet after a crash -- destroy it (so it doesn't get sold at a yard sale and used by someone else) or return it to the manufacturer (many have return services), and get a new helmet. After all, your brain is yours for life, and the injuries it suffers today may have serious consequences later. ...Read more
