Glaucoma. 1st opinion Dr. said maybe blind in 5 yrs. & see neuro Dr. 2nd opinion Dr. says glaucoma stable & neurologist not needed. Why difference?
Experience: Glaucoma can be a very challenging disease to treat and sometimes difficult to diagnose. If one of the doctors that you saw was a glaucoma specialist then I would lean towards their words of expertise. However if you have not seen a glaucoma specialist then I would recommend getting a third opinion, if possible, with an experienced specialist to settle which direction you should go. ...Read more

What dr or drs do I see for osler weber rendu syndrome. My ENT dr. Was not very helpful.
Osler Weber Rendu: Owr syndrome is an hereditary problem that causes multiple blood vessel growths called telangectasias. These cause bleeding problems, especially frequent nose bleeds. There is usually a family history of hereditary hemorrhagic telangectasias (hht). Most ENT dr.'s have some experience with this problem but may have exposure to only a few patients. Most academic centers will have hht clinics. ...Read more

Only 70% cured: The problem relying on gallbladder contraction (ejection fraction) as an indication for gallbladder removal is that there is no consensus or correlation between the ef% and response to cholecystectomy. Cholecystectomy is associated with cure in about 70%, but there is a similar rate of improvement is also seen in patients that are treated medically. 30% have persistent symptoms after surgery. ...Read more

Im in s. J area appt w dr black - pyschiatry monday w/ insurance 145$ need a willing dr 2 help ween off 30mg valium?
Psychiatry appt.: I'm not sure what you're requesting here, since you already have an appointment with a psychiatrist with whom you can discuss tapering valium. The doctor will want to know where you are with your anxiety, and maybe develop other treatment options as needed. Less habit-forming medicines are available, and hopefully the "behavior therapy" you're working in is helping. ...Read more
I am unsure that my dr is correct of mylupus diagnosis (no labs + other than ANA) 2nd opinion dr says no lupus if I take plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) w/o disease will hurt me?
No plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine): Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) is not an innocuous drug and needs careful follow-up. A positive ANA is present in many apparently healthy people and a diagnosis of lupus must not be made lightly based on this test alone. Follow the 2nd opinion and consider finding another family doctor. ...Read more

My dr said my blood work shows smith antibody, but rheumatologist don't think it's lupus, then what is it?
See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. One autoantibody is not sufficient to make a diagnosis of lupus. It would be prudent to follow the advice from the rheumatologist. ...Read more
