Prostatis: This is a difficult condition to treat effectively, and in fact may or may not be due to infection, or there may be infective agents not sensitive to the medication you are receiving. In addition, frequent ejaculation, warm Sitz baths and other adjunctive therapies may be beneficial. Hopefully your doctor is on the right track and you will recover soon. Best wishes. ...Read more
Only a guess: Looking up the drug, i found nothing that would indicate its specific effects upon edema (swelling) it is used for a wide variety of infections, many parasitic. My only guess is that the treatment is for an ailment which is known to cause systemic edema, and therefore if it indeed helps you this way it is because it is treating the causative agent. ...Read more

Not doxycycline: This is very unlikely to cause menstrual irregularities. Especially since you have severe acne, there is likely to be an overall problem with your hormonal milieu and cycle. Your physician is the best person to discuss this with. Heads up -- no antibiotic should be the sole therapy for acne; i trust you are using a topical agent as well. Best wishes; glad you're staying on top of these issues. ...Read more
I am on Augmentin Duo and I am due to start taking Doxycycline tomorrow before travelling to a country with Malaria. Are they safe to take together?
Antibiotics: There are substantial risks to taking antibiotics, including Clostridium difficile colitis. Since I do not know why you are taking what you have been prescribed it is difficult to comment, but taken together these agents are likely to alter your bowel flora significantly. You can take them together, but have to assess the risk/benefit ratio. ...Read more

I have acne and dark spots on my face, would doxycycline and lactic acid bacillus capsules help?i have oily skin
Manage it: The dark spots must fade on their own. Tetracycline must never be used for acne without a topical agent such as benzoyl peroxide. Lactobacillus pills are a waste of money for this and most other disease. You would do well to get with a competent mainstream physician and an evidence-based holist. Best wishes. ...Read more
