Doxepin Includes Nordoxepin
They're very similar: Elavil (amitriptyline) (amitripyline) and tofranil (imipramine) are both tricyclic antidepressants, an older category. While they are effective against depression, both can cause antihistamine-like effects e.g., sedation, dry mouth, dry eyes, constipation, and temporary trouble focusing vision. Elavil (amitriptyline) does this a little more, so tofranil may be better unless elavil's extra sedation helps. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

What is difference doxepin (silenor) & (sinequan)? What is dosage for insomnia for both types? Why both called doxepin? Seem very different.
Doxepin = generic : Silenor and sinequan are both doxepin, the generic name for the medication. The only difference is the dosages. Prescribing sinequan for sleep is an "off label" use; giving silenor is an indicated use. ...Read more

Otherwise, maybe try it and see how it goes? ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Niether: Niether have strong evidence supporting their use in anxiety. Neurontin's effects on anxiety are thought to be mediated through its effects on the inhibitory neurotransmitter gaba (similar to, but much more subtly than, benzodiazepines).
