In india recently was treated w/ o2 (ofloxacin & ornidazole) for 5 days (twice). Could amoeba cysts remain? Do I need to get tested? My doc says no
Correct: We usually do not retest for confirmation of clearance. If symptom return / not improve then it is reasonable to recheck. ...Read more
I had a sprain in my heel in the yesterday so today my father gave me o2 ofloxacin ornidazole tablets instead of a painkiller. Will I have any problems?
Not a treatment: Ofloxacin ornidazole is usually treatment for infection, not heel sprain. Unless your heel sprain is related to infection (unlikely) this actually doesn't treat it for anything. Pain killers are not recommended either, antiinflammatory medication, icing, rest, elevation, bracing and cool compression wraps usually help sprains. Good luck. ...Read more

Yes and no: Fluoroquinolones including Ofloxacin are indicated to treat multiply resistant shigellosis. However, almost all cases found in United States are susceptible to ceftriaxone. Side effect affecting soft tissues, e.g., tendon rupture, limit the use of "floxacin" in children under 17 years of age. ...Read more
Is norfloxacin400mg twice/day enough for chronic orchitis? Cipro, ofloxacin & levofloxacin are ineffective after relapse & missed dose. Thanks very much!
Probably won't help: "Chronic orchitis" (or maybe epididymitis?) usually is not a standard bacterial infection; antibiotics usually don't help. If three different fluoroquinolone antibiotics have not helped, probably a fourth will make no difference. Get checked for other things, like tuberculosis, fungal infection, drug reaction, and testicular cancer. See a urologist or infectious diseases specialist. Good luck! ...Read more

Not immediate: Ofloxacin ear drop is an antibacterial medication. You will not see/feel immediate relief in your ear symptoms when you begin to use it. If you are looking for pain relief, an otc pain reliever will likely work faster. I usually tell my patients that they will start to notice improvement in ear infection symptoms as early as 24-48 hours of use. ...Read more
Diarrhoea for 3weeks whilst in Asia. Taking doxycycline daily. Have just been prescribed 800mg ofloxacin and 2 sachets of bioflor daily. Is this ok?
Diarrhea: Based on the countries you traveled to and the food habits the cause of diarrhea can be variable. A stool study done by notifying the lab to look for certain pathogens may be the best option. A certain stool test can determine if there is inflammation (lactoferin). Emperic abx may not always help and may not be needed. Best of luck ...Read more
Cellulitis: The appropriate treatment of cellulitis depends on many factors such as underlying medical conditions, extent and location of the cellulitis. A culture is helpful, however not always possible to obtain. For antibiotic choice, drug interactions, sensitivity of the most common organisms, and any intolerances or allergies are all important. Oflox may be a good choice; tendinopathies have been seen. ...Read more
Yes: Al, the Floxin (ofloxacin) otic the two are used for different reasons. The penicillin is a drug that hopefully will destroy bacteria in the middle ear and the Floxin (ofloxacin) is a topical antibiotic. It is very important to know that if you have a middle ear infection without drainage and the external ear canal is normal, the Floxin (ofloxacin) otic would be useless. ...Read more
You seem to like: ofloxacin, and yet it's one of the strongest and most toxic fluorinated antibiotics around, and used often for hospital treated cellulitis and serious urinary tract infections. Do speak with your doctor FIRST to find out what's best for you, what strains you're resistant to, so you are targeting your therapy accurately & not shotgunning your care by guessing. (I know you can buy this OTC in Egypt.) ...Read more
