Probably right: It does sound like you have dyshidrosis or eczema of the hands. This is usually treated with topical cortisone creams, decreasing the number of times a day you wash your hands, using a mild soap and rubber gloves with cotton gloves underneath them when you do the dishes. This is usually worse in the winter and better in the summer. You should see a dermatologist. ...Read more

Herpes? Staph?: It could stil be paronychia with a secondary staph infection. But this also sounds like herpes (called herpetic whitlow when it involves the finger). This would be most likely if you also have newly acquired oral or genital herpes; or your finger were in contact with the oral or genital area of someone with herpes. Get examined ASAP; make sure an HSV PCR test is done (not just blood test). ...Read more

Can be inflammatory: You have symptoms on both sides of your body involving large and small joints. You may have some type of inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis (ra). Sometimes the tests for RA such as the rf and anticcp antibodies can be negative; and you can still have ra. Consider seeing a rheumatologist. ...Read more
