No worries, but...: There are many Lactobacillus types, and various studies have tried amounts of 1-10 billion CFUs (colony forming units) in babies, without seeing any bad side effects. That being said, there is seldom much research that one can find on one particular brand or strain of Lactobacillus use in babies... so no worries, but "user beware".

Probiotic (Definition)

Probiotics, by definition, are beneficial bacteria that live in our intestinal tract to help us maintain health intestines and colon. There are several species of these bacteria that are helpful to us including lactobacillus acidophilus. The meats we eat contain antibiotics that kill our natural bacteria that reside in our gut. Today, you will replace these ...Read more

Started a regimen of probiotics 10B CFUs/day. Are they really important for your health, or just a fad? If not a fad, what is a good dosage?

Started a regimen of probiotics 10B CFUs/day. Are they really important for your health, or just a fad? If not a fad, what is a good dosage?

Fad, already present: Most of the genes, estimated over a million, within out body are not within out cells. Only about 30, 000 are estimated to be within out cells. The rest are within all the microscopic bacteria & fungus which we carry with us called the microbiome. However, this remains complex, the control mechanisms, pros & cons remain poorly understood. Research the microbiome yourself for some background.

Starting vls3 probiotics for diverticulitis, I need a recomindation dosage and what's the best time to take them?

No specifics to give: Probiotics is known to help restore normal bacterial flora of intestines if being altered by antibiotic use or poor lifestyle. Its recommended dose is arbitrary so you may take it as advised usually with or before meals from the Company-but at most double it up and see since individual tolerance widely varies among people. But still remember healthy lifestyle remains the foundation of all care.

Are probiotics (25 billion CFU dosage) safe with a lower neutrophil count (1.5)?

Are probiotics (25 billion CFU dosage) safe with a lower neutrophil count (1.5)?

No: I wouldn't recommend it. Why is your neutrophil count low? From Chemo? If you have an oncologist you could ask her. But I would not recommend ingesting live cultures if your immunity is down.

I was taking a probiotic with great results, which seemed to have diminished. I increased the dosage and now have gas/bloating. How long can I expect?

Flora rebalancing: Probiotics are dietary supplements and foods that contain "beneficial" bacteria. They are promoted to improve digestion by rebalancing the normal microflora in the large intestine. Perhaps this rebalancing occurred and resulted in initial benefit for you, but further flora adaptation has occurred and lessened the favorable effect. More is not better. Just stop, or try another brand/bacteria.

Is an immediate acne breakout (within a week) a result of stopping antibiotics or starting a high dosage probiotics?

Is an immediate acne breakout (within a week) a result of stopping antibiotics or starting a high dosage probiotics?

Possibly: If you were having problems with acne breakouts, it is possible that continuous antibiotic administration was suppressing your acne tendency. When you discontinued steady antibiotic intake, skin bacteria may have proliferated causing an outbreak. A dermatologist is best qualified to answer your question, however. I don't think taking probiotics was the cause of the outbreak.

Wats the max dose of probiotics I can take in a day? Can I mix match?

No known max but...: There is no known maximum or toxic dose of probiotics. One well-researched product, vsl#3, has been given in doses of 1.8 trillion bacteria/day for a year without adverse reactions. See http://www. Medscape. Com/viewarticle/719654_11 it is definitely ok to mix ; match- different strains have diff. Benefits ; some may help you more than others. However, more is not always better so be cautious.

Can I eat yoghurt 14 hours after my last dose of ciprofloxacin? I haven't been taking any probiotics while on cipro and I feel like I need them.

Can I eat yoghurt 14 hours after my last dose of ciprofloxacin? I haven't been taking any probiotics while on cipro and I feel like I need them.

Yes: Although yogurt should not be taken at the time you take ciprofloxacin, you can eat yogurt 2 hours before or 2 ours after taking it. Although probitoics may be killed by the medication, it is not harmful to take while on the medication. Taking probiotics after finishing the antibiotic is particularly helpful.

Is 100 billion daily probiotic with multiple strains too much for a maintenance does? What are the dangers of taking too high of a dose of probiotic?

Not to worry here...: Taking too many probiotics or 'overdosing' on good bacteria is an extremely difficult thing to do. The human gut is home to roughly 100 trillion bacteria. The dose you describe is only 0.1% of the typical gut population.

I am thin and I would like to gain some weight. I also took high dose of antibiotic last month. Which probiotic is good for weight gain?

I am thin and I would like to gain some weight. I also took high dose of antibiotic last month. Which probiotic is good for weight gain?

Probiotics: Are best taken 30 minutes prior to a meal or with a meal that has some fat content. Peace and good health. Dr. Ohira brand is a good one. No need to change them unless they are not helpful to you. Look for multiple strains in the product rather than the amount of each strain. Increase protein intake to strengthen muscles. Peace and good health.
