Rct failed tooth #32-active infection, put on keflex 500mg-1 tab 3x daily. Dentist started retreatment...How likely to be successful?
Depends: Depends on the reason for failure and if a top endodontist did the original endo. We have done root canals on many wisdom teeth and they can be tricky due to there amorphous root forms. That being said, if they are done originally by a top microscopic endodontist, it can be done successfully. Often times the first root canan may miss canals or ledge curved canals making retreatment difficult. Have. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers
Damon braces (notmetal) vs lingual? My dr claims damon aremore effective, they make smile wider, reduce dark triangles. is he biased?he only does damon
See a pro: General dentist's who do braces are not as trains or as skilled as Orthodontic Specialists. An Orthodontist knows that the training and skill of the operator is more important then the gadget. Lingual appliances take longer to treat. Damon appliances tend to flare teeth outward. Please seek a specialist's opinion. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Cracks in tooth.I need crown.Have recession at base-not interested in gum graft. Dr. says he can make crown go down to cover expsd root.Safe for root?
Usually: We do this all the time and in itself there is no more danger to the tooth. However, not being able to clinically examine you nor see x-rays of the tooth I can only make a generalization on the safety of the procedure and cannot tell you what would be the best treatment for you for your particular situation. If you question the treatment you can go for a second opinion. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Don't cancel.: I know a surgical procedure can be frightening. The graft you described is really a pretty easy procedure. I have had it done myself and it was very easy with not pain. Trust your doctor and he will take care of you. Be sure to get all your questions answered by him before hand. Good luck. ...Read more
I'm faced with the choice of getting a tooth extracted or trying apico surgery on retreated root canal. Which one should ichoose?
Risk vs Reward: A published statistical analysis of that question reveals specific pre existing conditions that influence the outcome of apicoectomies. I suggest you visit your local endodontist to review your specific case to see which of these factors are causing the conventional treatment to fail and how they will influence the outcome of the surgical process. Good luck -. ...Read moreSee 5 more doctor answers
I did root canal through the gold crown, permenant fillings were done by dr i did not know. Is root canal final sealing same as regular filling?
My new molar crown, infected, root canalled by hole, temporary filling fall out, so went different dr, is filling method same, if root canalled or not?
Is this the problem?: 1) you had a new crown placed on one of your molars (was this a replacement for a previous crown that failed?) 2) infection then occurred, they did a root canal treatment& placed a temp filling which fell out 3) you went to new dentist, this treatment is possible: remove current crown, build up tooth & place new crown. Or if the crown is intact with just a small hole, fill hole up with composite. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
University dental clinic student periodontist's supervisor advised to pull molar. Said: no brainer. Did 2nd opinion and still have the tooth. Why...?
Philosophy: Dentists may differ on their opinion as to what is the best treatment in a particular set of circumstances, based upon their own philosophies and experience. Sometimes these decisions are not black and white. I know I have changed some of my own philosophies over the years as new research gives us more information and my own experiences & thoughts evolve over time. Often, it's a judgment call. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Of course: Endodontics (root canal) should not be performed without a dam. The main advantage is that you are protected from the ingestion or the aspiration of small dental instruments, tooth fragments and irrigating solutions. Patients also increasingly appreciate the use of the rubber dam. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Has anyone had a positive or negative experience using the integrated listening system (ils) for add in children?
Sorry, it has no : proven beneficial effect & it irritates some kids. Multimodal treatment of ADHD-Primarily Inattentive Type = medication, behavioral therapy, parent behavioral training & environmental modifications at home & school, including a Section 504. What is the best way to fight an insurance co that denies approval for a rhizotomy recommended by 3 mds? Appeal letter sent; 2 peer:peer reviews done
Keep fighting: The only way to win is to persevere. This is a stare down competition the first person to look away loses. It sucks that it takes all this effort, but it took me and one of my patients almost 1.5 years to get procedure approved. We never waivered and obviously the treatment helped and was appropriate for care which inevitably helped. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
I read that occup. Therapists in Canada can now perform psychotherapy w/ additional training. Is this a new trend for the field?
The lines between: clinical psychotherapy & other forms of therapy are somewhat blurred these days. It is unfortunate, since many people think they R in therapy when they R being seen by coaches or counselors with very limited training. If U need psychotherapy, I would recommend starting w' trained psychologists, psychiatrists or social workers. If therapy with an occupational therapist is needed, they will refer U ...Read more

Md writes that ultherapy treats the same foundation layer that facelift surgery does without the risk, recovery & downtime. True? New gold standard?
I'm sorry, not true!: I am not sure who wrote that but I am sure it is someone who owns and is paying the lease on an ultherapy machine. This is not a substitute for a facelift, most current facelift techniques treat the deeper layers of thef face called the smas. Ultherapy is unlikely to truly tighten the smas. It may supplement the results but is far different in results from a facelift. ...Read moreSee 7 more doctor answers
Not to worry: Everyone who breathes or drinks from plastic or eats barbecued food has cancer-causing material in them. Statistically we do not see more cancers with people undergoing root canals. I wouldn't worry about it. Some people have cancer that occurs due to sun exposure and factors that we cannot prevent. It certainly isn't worth worrying about. Hope that helps. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
