Carotid mra vs carotid doppler ultrasound better predictor?

Carotid mra vs carotid doppler ultrasound better predictor?

Doppler Ultrasound: Ultrasound has proven to be cost-effective and quite accurate in determining the degree of narrowing in the carotid artery. Many vascular surgeons, including myself, solely rely on it to decide whether someone needs an operation. Mra is not so good and over-estimates the actual degree of narrowing. I would not rely on its findings to decide on operating. As mentioned a cta is much better. ...Read more

Doppler velocimetry fetal umbilical artery, what is this?

Doppler velocimetry fetal umbilical artery, what is this?

Measuring blood: doppler readings measure the speed, and flow pattern of blood in the umbilical artery. The specific measurements and patterns are evaluated to see if they are within normal limits ...Read more

What is doppler echocardiography?

Ultrasound: Echocardiography refers to an ultrasound study of the heart and doppler generally tracks bloodflow. ...Read more

What is more accurate, a color carotid doppler ultrasound or a contrast carotid mra?

What is more accurate, a color carotid doppler ultrasound or a contrast carotid mra?

Carotid: A carotid doppler is a good screening procedure. A mra or cta of the carotids is more accurate but not the way to screen patients. ...Read more

Carotid doppler showed 50% bilateral blockage, mr angiogram was negative. Which is more accurate?

Carotid doppler showed 50% bilateral blockage, mr angiogram was negative. Which is more accurate?

Debatable: Few vascular surgeons make decisions on carotid artery stenosis based on mr, as carotid doppler (ultrasound) has been proven to be very reliable when a good technologist performs the study. From what you're describing, your carotid arteries are likely without disease as the reporting standards for ultrasound haven't quite been set. In my lab you'd likely be found to have no disease at all. ...Read more

What is an abnormal mitral annular velocity pattern by tissue doppler imaging?

What is an abnormal mitral annular velocity pattern by tissue doppler imaging?

Diastolic component: This is the velocity of the flow crossing your mitral valve. The flow from the upper chamber (Left Atrium) to Left Ventricle is regulated by the mitral valve. - Depending on the pressure, volume, muscle of the left ventricle the way the blood goes from atrium to ventricle may vary - Velocities can tell your cardiologist the level of impairment in diastole of ir normal. ...Read more

What is 3d colour doppler echocardiography?

What is 3d colour doppler echocardiography?

Heart ultrasound: 3d color doppler echocardiography is part of the ultrasound of the heart that looks at blood flow across the valves of the heart and measures flow velocity of the blood across the valves. It can accurately measure regurgitant flow (leaky valves) or measure the degree of a valve that is not opening properly. It assists the doctors in assessing valvular heart disease and effects on heart function. ...Read more

Doctors, what is the difference between transthoracic echo and doppler echocardiogram.?

The same: Doppler is part of every transthoracic echo procedure. Whereas the non-doppler portion of the test outlines structures, doppler focuses on blood flow. ...Read more

How accurate is carotid artery ultrasound?

Very: Carotid ultrasounds are very accurate. Not only can the plaque morphology be evaluated, but the degree of narrowing can be accurately estimated by measuring the peak systolic velocities. Complete carotid ultrasounds also evaluate the vertebral, subclavian and intracranial arteries. Ct angiograms are often done to confirm ultrasound findings prior to surgery. ...Read more

When measuring ascending aorta size(horiz)from sinotobular junction to innominate artery is cardiac mri/mra for morphology more accurate test than cta?

When measuring ascending aorta size(horiz)from sinotobular junction to innominate artery is cardiac mri/mra for morphology more accurate test than cta?

Depends: Done properly, ideally with ECG gating, an aortic MRA is equivalent to an aortic CTA. The opinion from some vascular docs is an overestimation on MRA. This was probably from movement artifact and older scanners. The benefit of MRA is the lack of iodinated contrast and lack of radiation. It is in routine use at many large medical facilities to periodically track aortic enlargement- kids/adults ...Read more

What's more accurate, a color carotid doppler ultrasound or a contrast coratid mra?

Both good: Ultrasound is a good screening test. Can give idea about plaque make up. Mra shows flow but can overestimate amount of stenosis. Cta best if ultrasound not normal. ...Read more

Echocardiography report, left ventricle, prominent septal bulge 1.2cm without tract obstruction, also resting wall motion abnormalities were present, spectral doppler shows impaired lv diastolic filli?

Echocardiography report, left ventricle, prominent septal bulge 1.2cm without tract obstruction, also resting wall motion abnormalities were present, spectral doppler shows impaired lv diastolic filli?

Complicated : To understand a report one needs to talk with one's physician. Resting wall motion abnormalities means areas of the heart are damaged and not contracting or squeezing normally. That is the heart "walls" are not moving correctly. Sometimes this can cause the wall inside the heart that separates the right and left side to "bulge". Impaired filling means the heart does not "relax" normally. ...Read more

Accuracy of carotid artery ultrasound to detect circ problems and impending cva?

Could duplex ultrasound replace arteriography in screening for mesenteric ischemia?

Could duplex ultrasound replace arteriography in screening for mesenteric ischemia?

No screening: There is nothing called screening for mesenteric stenosis. If you have no symptoms then you no need to screen for occlusion. If you have chronic symptoms then duplex ultrasound is a good starting test but has a lot of limitations. In cases of acute ischemia then ct scan is best to start with. ...Read more
