What meds, other than wellbutrin, (bupropion) can increase the dopamine re~uptake inhibitors?

What meds, other than wellbutrin, (bupropion) can increase the dopamine re~uptake inhibitors?

Several: Levodopa, which is used to treat parkinson's, encourages the brain to make dopamine. Tyrosine, an Amino Acid made from phenylalanine, is converted into levodopa, which is in turn converted to dopamine. Wellbutrin (bupropion) & the maoi's can also increase dopamine. I'm on lexapro ivega and abilify I understand 2 of these medicines are similar, I also know they're ssris (at least I've been told). ...dopamine is safe to raise? Uptake inhibitors work for a reason so I have to ask

Different mechanisms: Abilify and Invega both blocks 5HT2A (one of the serotonin receptors) and D2 (one of the dopamine receptors). These two medications actually decrease the actions of dopamine in the brain. Lexapro is an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) which modulates/regulates serotonin transmission in certain brain pathways. None of these drugs increase dopamine. ...Read more

How does strattera (atomoxetine) help for ADHD if it is a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, without affecting dopamine?

How does strattera (atomoxetine) help for ADHD if it is a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, without affecting dopamine?

Strattera (atomoxetine) blocks: Reuptake of norepinephrine but rat studies show that it also raises levels of Dopamine in the prefrontal cortex 3x without raising levels in the nucleus accumbens that controls addiction and where the other stimulant drugs also act. Dr. Stephen stahl calls some of the cells in the prefrontal cortex promiscuous because they contain both norepinephrine and dopamine. There is more to be learned. ...Read more
