Do doctors prescribe Aricept (donepezil) "just in case a patient has alzhiemer's?" no formal diagnosis of her confusion had been made.

Complex: Not so simple, as memory enhancing agents do not really affect the disease process per se, and are only useful for some symptom control. May be employed for a variety of "off-label" cognitive issues associated with non-alzheimer's conditions. Meet with your doctor if you have questions or concerns and get items clarified. ...Read more

I stopped taking namenda (memantine) a few days ago because of confusion problems, how long do the effects last after stopping? I now take Donepezil 5mg

I stopped taking namenda (memantine) a few days ago because of confusion problems, how long do the effects last after stopping? I now take Donepezil 5mg

Good change, I hope: The half-life of Namenda (memantine) is no more than 80 hrs. This should mean that it will be unlikely to still have and effects in a week to 10 days. But your doctor or a pharmacist may explain it better. The new drug should not have that side effect, but watch it and discuss risks w/ the doctor too. Best wishes for good results! ...Read more
