I'm 20wk preg. Having cold nodules on thyroid gland. Will go for biopsy. On thyroxine tablets. No swelling. Is it cancerous and hope baby is fine. ?
Nodule: Baby is fine as long as the thyroid level is normal. Nodules are common and even when it's a "cold" nodule the risk of cancer is still small as well over 80% of them are still benign. Probably not related: If you require thyroid hormone for life, then stopping it may result in an increase in the overall size of your gland (a goiter) which should shrink when you restart the hormone, but nodules are generally not caused by stopping thyroid hormone. Follow up nodule: thyroid nodules are very common especially in older patients. The vast majority are not cancer and just hyper plastic nodules (overgrowth of normal tissue). In young patients like yourself thyroid nodules should be watched more closely.
