Does Wpw Syndrome Affect Life Expectancy
I am diagnosed having WPW syndrome during my pre employment medical. I am tense whether employer will accept me with it. I want to get treated it. How?
Typically the: Electrical activity in the heart will be studied and a "fast pathway" will be found. The cardiologist can usually ablate that pathway once found.
Yes: While WPW syndrome is genetic, not every patient behaves or is treated the same way. A good percentage of the WPW population will not need any treatment as they do not have fast heart rates (arrhythmias). At the other end of the spectrum however, live patients with WPW who may need ablation or possibly an icd. The proper course of action is determined by an electrophysiologist usually.See 1 more doctor answer
I'm on propranolol for WPW syndrome. I usually have a coffee that contains 150 mg of caffeine every morning. Is this safe? I haven't had a problem yet
Maybe, maybe not: Caffeine is a mild cardiac stimulant. Heart rate may increase. Ectopic beats may increase. Cardiac conduction time may shorten. But not all WPW is the same - there are electrophysiologic differences between individuals. Bottom line: can't say if caffeine is safe for you. If you have tachycardia on propranolol (caffeine or not), discuss ablation with your doctor.
Wpw: Congenital defect of the electrical system with an extrinsic pathway which can cause arrhythmias. It can be associated with Svt and a fib and if the a fib conducts rapidly can lead to sudden deathSee 3 more doctor answers
Hello, I want to fly in france I have WPW syndrome can I fly? Is it necessary to drink some drugs before fly?
Your WPW: Should be under good control with medications or ablation prior to traveling when you are far from a doctor's care. Check in with your cardiologist for guidance.
Have Wpw syndrome (not currently being treated for) and detoxing from heavy methadone additiction (3+ years) Should I be concerned?
Certain medications: ...do increase the chance of heart rhythm problems in people with WPW but we're not certain about methadone. As to methadone withdrawal, it's MANDATORY that you detox under close supervision of an experienced addiction specialist and a cardiologist. You may need an anti-arhythmic drug and a very slow methadone taper. Suboxone can help reduce withdrawal symptoms and detox stress. Dr. Anne.
Pre-excitation: Wpw syndrome is commonly diagnosed on the basis of the surface ECG in an asymptomatic individual. In this case it is manifested as a delta wave, which is a slurred upstroke in the qrs complex that is associated with a short pr interval. The short pr interval and slurring of the qrs complex is actually the impulse making it through to the ventricles prematurely (across the accessory pathway) withou.See 1 more doctor answer
Congenital: Wpw is the syndrome associated with an extra (or accessory) pathway between the top (atria) and bottom (ventricle) chambers of the heart. Yes this is present from birth. Patients with the extra electrical connection may have episodes of extreme tachycardia (rapid heart beat). This can be treated with medication or by ablating the extra pathway in a cath lab.
Yes: This is usually not a problem.Get a more detailed answer ›
Not directly: Wpw is a heart condition associated with cardiac arrhythmia. The classic arrhythmia is supraventricular tachycardia. More serious rhythm problems can also occur and there is an increased risk of sudden death. During arrhythmia, cardiac output can drop, and some people have seizures during times of low cardiac output from arrhythmia.See 1 more doctor answer
Not Usually: Unless there's a major developmental syndrome causing multiple abnormalities of the body (these are usually quite obvious) these two are pretty unlikely to be associated.See 1 more doctor answer
I have symptomatic WPW syndrome (episode SVT about once a year), I take medications all the time, can I fly commercial airplane (3 hours)?
Not helpful: A nuclear stress test will provide information regarding the health of your coronary arteries which have nothing to do with wpw. If a stress test is indicated, it's independent of wpw. If WPW is the issue, a stress test will provide no useful information.
Rhythm disturbance: Wpw (short pr interval) is an electrical disturbance that can lead to fatal rhythm distubances under certain conditions. You should mention it to mds, rns, athletic coaches, etc. So that you don't get meds that might aggravate the problem.See 2 more doctor answers
