Weight Loss Surgery (Definition)

Surgical procedures for obesity may be appropriate for some dangerously obese people, and they may reduce heart problems and many of the risks associated with obesity. These risks include high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and diabetes. In fact, surgery provides much greater control of weight and diabetes than nonsurgical weight-loss methods. Studies are reporting significant reductions in diabetes, and the need for diabetic medications, after surgery. Other medical conditions that often improve after surgery include heartburn, arthritis, and other joint and circulation problems. The care of patients undergoing bariatric surgery, before and after surgery, requires specialized expertise and facilities. Studies have shown that the likelihood of complications is significantly associated with the experience of the surgeon and staff. Bariatric surgeries produce weight loss through one of two approaches: * Restrictive Banding Procedures. These procedures restrict the amount of food by closing off parts of the stomach with bands. * Malabsorptive Bypass Procedures. This approach restricts the amount of food and also reduces absorption by using a bypass of parts of the intestine. Does herniated disc cause protective scoliosis and difficulty walking in the pediatric population? Can injections or surgery improve mobility?

Does herniated disc cause protective scoliosis and difficulty walking in the pediatric population? Can injections or surgery improve mobility?

Confusing question: You don't get herniated disks in kids. They are unheard of before adult muscle mass is present along with some ageing. I kid can have a mild degree of "splinting" scoliosis if they have any pain in their side for any reason. They tend to lean toward the pain. Improvement depends on finding the source of the pain which could be as simple as a muscle pull or as bad as appendicitis. ...Read more

Back strengthening: As one who has a bulging disc (and no surgery), back strengthening exercises are very important to help stabilize the back. For 5 seconds, raise your right arm and shoulder, and left leg and hip off the floor, then repeat on the other side. Do this 12x on each side. ...Read more

DDD Spondy l5-S1 severe stenosis herniated discs + abdominal injury any advice on how to correct posture & improve Severe hunching?

How about PT: Well, I know you're in pain with all that you've said..you haven't specified the nature of the abdominal injury so I don't know whether or not you are bedbound right now or able to get up and move about? Is there a plan to surgerize the back with everything there? I wouldn't necessarily unless it's your only option. Does abdominoplasty help with lower back pain due to herniated disc?

Does abdominoplasty help with lower back pain due to herniated disc?

Probably not: Abdominoplasty has been shown to help some individuals with spreading or separation of their anterior abdominal muscles, called rectus diastasis. By suturing these back in the midline during an abdominoplasty, tension is taken off of the back musculature, alleviating chronic lower back pain. However, a herniated disc should be treated by a spine surgeon. ...Read more

I have herniated disc l5-s1, getting epidural steroid injections. Will it help with weakness and numbness or does it only help pain?

Hard to say: once inflammation is removed, then if your weakness and numbness improve it will help. typically though weakness suggests significant compression on the nerve and that may take time to return. What are the best exercises to lose 30 lbs in 8 weeks with 2 herniated disks and 5 bulging disks through out your spine.

Water: Well, you would definitely want to avoid aggravating your spine by doing "too much" exercise. Water exercises take much of the stress off the back and could potentially be better tolerated. Ultimately weight loss us based upon calorie intake verse calories burned, so limiting your intake of calories would certainly be helpful.
