Is there a proper technique to perform a fingerstick glucose test?

Is there a proper technique to perform a fingerstick glucose test?

Not really: Hi. It's so easy, it's like falling outta bed! Hands should be clean, but unless you have a dirty job, no one washes just for testing if your hands are reasonably clean. Don't dip your fingers in honey over the test site; glucose on the skin would, of course, influence results. Otherwise, no special routine. No one uses alcohol pads (like they do at doctors offices, etc). It's SO easy! Good luck! ...Read more

How do fasting insulin test and glucose test differ?

Different tests: Insulin & glucose are 2 different ways to measure diabetes. Insulin is produced by pancreas to keep sugars under control. We measure glucose to see how well sugars are controlled. We can measure Insulin to determine how much effort pancreas is making to control sugars. Will smoking cause you to fail the 3 hour glucose test? How much does it affect it? How many hours before test should I stop to avoid failing?

Please quit smoking!: Smoking will not directly affect a glucose tolerance test. But it is very tempting to tell you it would if it would get you quit at least for a day. Quitting smoking now will affect your long term health much more than the results of this test. If this test is being done because you're pregnant, that's all the more reason to quit smoking now.
