Does Water Affect Glucose Test
The blood sugar concentration or blood glucose level is the amount of glucose (sugar) present in the blood of a human or animal. The body naturally tightly regulates blood glucose levels as a part of metabolic homeostasis. Glucose is the primary source of energy for the body's cells, and blood lipids (in the form of fats and oils) are primarily ...Read more

What to do if I am going in for a blood glucose test tomorrow. I don't know how they will test this. Can you tell me what will happen?
I am 24wks preg. Dr wants me to do glucose test but I don't have time in my life for this. There's no fam hist of diabetes. Is this really necessary?
Making time for: This means that you are making your baby's well being a priority. Even if there is no family history of diabetes -this does not mean that you couldn't develop gestational diabetes. ...Read more
Not really: Hi. It's so easy, it's like falling outta bed! Hands should be clean, but unless you have a dirty job, no one washes just for testing if your hands are reasonably clean. Don't dip your fingers in honey over the test site; glucose on the skin would, of course, influence results. Otherwise, no special routine. No one uses alcohol pads (like they do at doctors offices, etc). It's SO easy! Good luck! ...Read more
Different tests: Insulin & glucose are 2 different ways to measure diabetes. Insulin is produced by pancreas to keep sugars under control. We measure glucose to see how well sugars are controlled. We can measure Insulin to determine how much effort pancreas is making to control sugars. Think of glucose as speedometer & Insulin as tachometer (hgba1c is avg trip speed - ask a car nut if this doesn't make sense). ...Read more

I was just diagnosed with hypoglycemia after a 3 hour glucose test. Does it ever go away? What do I have to know about it?
Hypoglycemia: Many normal people have relatively low glucose 3 hr after a GTT. But normal people do not go around drinking 75 g of pure glucose. That test does not diagnose hypoglycemia. If you have symptoms after eating sugary meals, then you should change your diet to more protein and complex carbs. Eat small frequent meals. ...Read more

Will smoking cause you to fail the 3 hour glucose test? How much does it affect it? How many hours before test should I stop to avoid failing?
Please quit smoking!: Smoking will not directly affect a glucose tolerance test. But it is very tempting to tell you it would if it would get you quit at least for a day. Quitting smoking now will affect your long term health much more than the results of this test. If this test is being done because you're pregnant, that's all the more reason to quit smoking now.
