Good start: The most common vitamin deficiency is d, which causes a lot of nonspecfic pain and some other problems. Especially with the weight loss, or if your pain syndrome does not resolve quickly, it would be wise to continue to seek a cause -- possibly malabsorption contributing to a vitamin deficiency. Good luck and stay proactive. Read more

See the pediatrician: This is a tough question that really needs to be evaluated and answered by a health care provider who is actually seeing and caring for your baby. I would schedule an appointment with the pediatrician to get this checked out. Read more

Hi, I am a vegetarian. Going on 6 years now with no problems. I noticed I am bruising a lot easier now. Is this a vitamin deficiency? I work graveyard

Could be vitamin def: Vitamin deficiencies are a common cause of bruising. Possiblities include Vitamins C, D and K. Bioflavanoid deficiency and zinc deficiency can cause this too. Everyone will become deficient in D if they do not supplement in fall and winter months (I advise 5-8000 iu/day). I advise everyone to take a multivit. Many multis don't have Vit K so try separate K. Hi, I'm 25 and I bruise very easily. Many unexplainable. Also with worsening/darkening under eye circles. Could it just be age or vitamin deficiency?

Hi, I'm 25 and I bruise very easily. Many unexplainable. Also with worsening/darkening under eye circles. Could it just be age or vitamin deficiency?

Multiple Problems: Dark circles under eyes can be from allergies or sleep deprivation or both. Easy bruising can be caused by blood disorders but can also be caused by certain vitamin supplements like fish oil, flax seed oil or other high omega 3 fatty acids. If you are taking any of these stop them for a while and see if your bruising improves. Also be careful with aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, etc. Read more

What are some underlying causes of vitamin deficiency? I'm d, b-12 deficient and have a high fetrin level.

Different causes: Vitamin d deficiency is mainly due to lack of sunlight (although could also increase skin cancer risk). Vitamin B12 deficiency is more nutritional although it's also associated w/gastric disorders leading to loss of intrinsic factor. High ferritin suggests either infection or lots of iron. Best to check w/your family or whoever ordered these tests. Replacement of B12 & d is inexpensive & easy. Read more
