What are some common symptoms of vitamin deficiency? I have suffered weigh loss, easy bruising, sore bones and joints. Dr told me to take a daily vitamin.

Good start: The most common vitamin deficiency is d, which causes a lot of nonspecfic pain and some other problems. Especially with the weight loss, or if your pain syndrome does not resolve quickly, it would be wise to continue to seek a cause -- possibly malabsorption contributing to a vitamin deficiency. Good luck and stay proactive. ...Read more

Does the fact that my baby bruises easily mean he has a vitamin deficiency?

See the pediatrician: This is a tough question that really needs to be evaluated and answered by a health care provider who is actually seeing and caring for your baby. I would schedule an appointment with the pediatrician to get this checked out. ...Read more

Easy bruising and bleeding. Am I deficient on a vitamin?

Unlikely: There are many possible reasons for "easy bruising and bleeding". A significant deficiency of vit k could cause abnormal bleeding, but this is unlikely with a normal diet. If this seems like a serious problem, you should be evaluated by your physician to determine the cause. ...Read more

Could be vitamin def: Vitamin deficiencies are a common cause of bruising. Possiblities include Vitamins C, D and K. Bioflavanoid deficiency and zinc deficiency can cause this too. Everyone will become deficient in D if they do not supplement in fall and winter months (I advise 5-8000 iu/day). I advise everyone to take a multivit. Many multis don't have Vit K so try separate K. I bruise frequently. Is this a sign of a vitamin deficiency?

Easy bruising: The most common causes of easy bruising are: (1) taking Aspirin or similar anti-inflammatory medication (including steroids); having a platelet defect (which is what Aspirin causes) but there are other diseases that can do this; taking a blood thinner (eg, warfarin). Among the vitamin deficiency causes, inadequate vitamin c intake is the one most often associated with bruising and bleeding (gums). ...Read more

Hi, I'm 25 and I bruise very easily. Many unexplainable. Also with worsening/darkening under eye circles. Could it just be age or vitamin deficiency?

Multiple Problems: Dark circles under eyes can be from allergies or sleep deprivation or both. Easy bruising can be caused by blood disorders but can also be caused by certain vitamin supplements like fish oil, flax seed oil or other high omega 3 fatty acids. If you are taking any of these stop them for a while and see if your bruising improves. Also be careful with aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, etc. ...Read more
