No: Please do something about your vitamin d deficiency. If you have any reason to think you have real hypoglycemia, seek laboratory confirmation, especially if it's fasting hypoglycemia -- episodes of impaired mental function if you don't eat, corrected by taking glucose / orange juice. Your physician knows how to work this up; ignore most of the 'pop' wisdom. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Yes: In the early 19th century, scientists noted weakness and numbness with B12 deficiency. Recently, B12 has been shown to upregulate neurotrophic factors (chemicals [cytokines] that help nerve cells grow) & downregulate neurotoxic factors (chemicals that break down nerve cells). In other words, B12 helps nerve cells grow and prevents their destruction by naturally occurring brain chemicals. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I keep reading there is no proof that daily vitamin c can help the body, but a deficiency is bad so shouldn't you try to eat alot of foods with vit c ?
Vitamins/minerals: The body needs dozens and dozens of vitamins and minerals to work properly. Vitamin C is only one of them. A deficiency of any of them is not good. An excess of some is also not good. Excess Vit C is simply excreted by the kidneys into the urine. Your body is very good at regulating it. I recommend a balanced diet, with the RDA of VitC. Having "a lot" more than recommended won't keep you healthier. ...Read more

Hi doctor. For a while now I have been having problems with flatulence. I am currently taking vitamin C and E. Can vitamins cause flatulence? Thanks
Pro mean with: and bio means life. Probiotics help the GI system digest food. Anti means against. So, if one takes excessive antibiotics (which are sometimes needed) they can kill off the good bacteria in our GI systems and we can have digestive problems. So, the probiotics replace the good bacteria that are missing or low. Peace and good health. Vitamins unlikely the cause. ...Read more
What is the recommended dosage of Vitamin C for children aged 7/8 with the weight in the high 70's/low 80's? It is for immune system health.

So for a 7/8 year old the RDA is 25 mg and the UL (upper limit) safe to give is 650 mg daily. For anti cancer, cold, & antioxidant benefits the recommendations start at 200 mg daily, See PMD. ...Read more
Is it ok for children to have vitamin C chewable tablets? Each tablet has 500mg of vitamin c. My kids are 14, 11 and 9 (might of sent this 2x, sorry)
Better if buffered: Vitamin c is beneficial for children & adults 500 mg they are like candy that's good for you! however, there is the potential for chewable vit c tablets to erode dental enamel due to their acidity. This risk is greatly reduced if you choose a buffered c tablet with sodium or calcium ascorbate instead of ascorbic acid. If what you have is not buffered, brush teeth after using & choose buffered next! ...Read more
