I have my vitamin B12 in a low level at 150, is it dangerous and what should I do to increase it.And does the lack of this vitamin slow the metabolisme?
Low Vit B12.: Low vit B12 (vit B12 deficiency) usually at levels below 200, and reportedly at levels below 400 may lead to permanent neurological damage. It is easily treated with once monthly injections or by over the counter supplementation with the subligunal form being preferred. The quality of the lab testing & other factors may lead to falsely low results. ...Read more
Not much: Very few. Unsaturated plant fats may help increase HDL a little, as will small amounts of alcohol. Vitamin d is made in your skin in response to light exposure. It is found in many foods, such as dairy products, but most are supplemented. Vitamin B12 is in most animal derived products, but is hard to be deficient in unless you have chronic stomach or intestinal problems or prior GI surgery. ...Read more
How long after supplementing with sublingual vitamin B12 would it take for serum levels to increase as seen on lab test? Is the effect immediate?

Possibly, probably: Some experts advise treating anyone with symptoms of B12 deficiency who has a level below 450, so you qualify. Deficiency occurs from either not getting enough in diet or poor absorption. If you eat a lot of animal foods (clams and fish are esp. Good sources) and still have this level try supplementing with 1000 mcg/day of methylcobalamin (ideally sublingual form). See http://bit.Ly/1607tg3. ...Read more

B12 is 264.8nmol/l normal between 141-698..do I need a vitamin B12 supplement or a vitamin b complex would be good to raise the number?
As you noted...: your B12 level is NORMAL, and as such does not require undue concern or supplementation. Why was it checked in the first place in an otherwise healthy 21 year old male? ...Read more
If i buy vitamin B12 supplements and vitamin E supplements. Will it increase my energy and brain power?
It depends...: If you are deficient in B12 it will improve energy and can improve brain function. If you are not deficient (levels below 500) it won't help. Vit e is useful as a preventive measure but generally does not give energy or brain power. It would be ideal to consult with a holistic doc to assess the reasons you might lack energy or brain power so you can address the specific causes. ...Read more
4 year old female always had low Vitamin B12 had high infection 4 weeks ago now has platelet count well above average white blood cell count increased?
Check again: Often blood cell abnormalities come and go for a variety of reasons. I would recommend you see your pediatrician or family doctor and have your child thoroughly examined. A normal exam will be very reassuring. I would also repeat the blood tests in a week or two and compare. I would also talk to the doctor about diet and vitamins for the B12 deficiency. ...Read more
Took 2 CBC test within two weeks and a vitamin B12 & folate (folic acid) test. B12: 672 folate (folic acid): 15.5 platelets decreased from 276 to 254. Eos (1) basos increased by 1, hgb increased by 1.0, hct increased by 2.5 ?
Needs clarification: The first thing I would do is check the lab result...perhaps a decimal point is out of place as a normal result is in the 200 to 600 pg/ml range. Are the units correct ... pg (picograms) per milliliter. Some medications can affect B12 levels. It would be unusual to have such a high level and no other signs of liver/kidney disease or cancer. ...Read more
