Does Pepcid (famotidine) or tagament contain sulfa? Already took a few pepcids (famotidine) but gave me horrible anxiety attacks. Was wondering if either had sulfa in them.

No: Sulfa is an antibiotic but sulfate is an agent (salt) bound to many medications and has not been known to cause any adverse reactions. It is unusual for Tagamet or Pepcid (famotidine) to cause an anxiety reaction. My best guess is that the intake of these drugs might have slowed down the breakdown of caffeine leading to a higher blood level and thus the anxiety. But then it may just be the drugs themselves. ...Read more

Does polytrim (polymyxin b and trimethoprim) contain sulfa?

Does polytrim (polymyxin b and trimethoprim) contain sulfa?

Sulfates not sulfa: Polytrim (polymyxin b and trimethoprim) contains sulfates. A patient history of allergic reaction to sulfa drugs should not exclude polytrim (polymyxin b and trimethoprim) as a treatment. There seems to be no correlation between trimethoprim sulfate and sulfa sensitivity. However, one can be allergic to anything. Check with your treating doctor. ...Read more

If one has a sulfa allergy and what would be the medicines to treat this?

There are none: If you are truly allergic to sulfa you must avoid all forms of the drug whether it be in eye drops, pills or IV meds.
