Dr. Victor Bonuel answered:

Is it okay to take Acetaminophen pills that also have caffeine if you have Stage 3/4 kidney disease? I believe Tylenol itself is considered safe.

Tylenol is safe for

Kidney_stone_removal
patients with kidney disease. But NSAIDS- like ibuprofen/motrin, aleve are not safe for renal patients .They cause constriction of renal arteries, thus decreasing blood flow by antagonizing the effect of prostaglandin. Caffeine is OK for patients with kidney disease but too much of it can raise the blood pressure. Hope all is well with your family! Take care!

Is excedrin safe while pregnant? Acetaminophen, aspirin, caffeine combo pill.

No

Acetaminophen
While acetaminophen is safe, aspirin is linked to an increased rate of miscarriages if used in the first trimester and to a premature closure of the ductus arteriosus (a baby vessel in the fetus) if used in the third trimester. Caffeine must be limited during the pregnancy as well due to potential adverse effects on the fetus. Tylenol can be tried for pain related complaints.

My 15-year-old sister with a strong immune system took 1,430 mg of caffiene, 121 grams of acetaminophen , and 121 grams of aspirin. Will she survive?

Cannot say

Aspirin
She definitely has a hard road ahead of her medically. If she is being treated aggressively in an ICU or progressive care unit at a hospital that treats a lot of pediatric/adolescent patients and has GI specialist, Cardiologist and Intensivist, she has a reasonable chance. Might require liver transplant and/or kidney dialysis support. Pray for her.

Dr. Martin Wodi answered:

What's better to take for migrains? Tylenol or Advil ?

Migraine

Migraine
Either drug could be helpful in migraines with variants that contain caffeine even better. Lying down in a quiet, dark room could be helpful in some migraine patients. The commonest and most effective medicines for migraines are the triptans - (sumatriptan, almotriptan, rizatriptan etc). See your doctor for an evaluation and treatment plan. Good luck!!!

Is it OK to take tylenol and aspirin together for a headache?

Sure

Avoid_caffeine
You can space them out or choose one of the combination products like Excedrin (aspirin, tylenol and caffeine). I also agree that ibuprofen is a better choice than aspirin.

What are the effects of a Floricet (apap/butalbital/caffeine) overdose?

Sedation/liver issue

Overdose
The tylenol component can cause liver damage if too many are taken at once. The butalbital will cause sedation that cannot fully be overcome by the caffeine.

Dr. Adam Tripp answered:

How would you recommend I cure my caffeine addiction?

Taper or cold turkey

Addiction_to_medications
You can reduce your daily intake of caffeine by a cup a day or two, if you can, otherwise if that's not possible going cold turkey. Use ibuprofen or tylenol as necessary for the withdrawal headadache, but not over the max dose on the bottle. The withdrawal headache can last for days to a couple of weeks.
