Does the last meal of the day affect how well you sleep?

Does the last meal of the day affect how well you sleep?

Yes, meals: Food, particularly taken too close to bedtime or amounts that greatly distend stomach walls, can greatly affect sleep. Also the type of food/drink taken will affect sleep. If problems sleeping, consider making sure last meal or snack is at least 2 hours from bedtime and is a lighter meal. That being said, going to bed hungry can distrupt sleep. ...Read more

Listen to your body: If you distribute meals through the day, eating a meal before going to sleep is not likely to cause weight gain. Try having your biggest meal before going to work. How bad is it to only eat one meal a day and get about 5 hours of sleep each night?

How bad is it to only eat one meal a day and get about 5 hours of sleep each night?

In long-run? Unsusta: You r still young & so it may seem that this is normal to u. However, I suspect u will find that this pattern is unsustainable in the long-term. At some point you will build up a "sleep debt" and a caloric deficit. As u age u may find urself sleeping more, & eating more (even in that 1 meal). Those who eat 3x/day usually eat less overall than those who eat less frequently (but eat more per meal). ...Read more

I usually only have an appetite until 3 in the afternoon. I eat about two meals a day and have gained about 25 lbs in 6 months. I also have insomnia and end up going to sleep at 2am then wake up at 8am and go back to sleep at 9am and wake at 12pm.

Do you have: depression? These sx's, though a bit atypical, do fit, but you'd need more to make a dx. Anxiety? Have you seen an OB-GYN? I'm thinking a hormone check might be good. Do you have strange work hours? How about unstable relationships? Been to a nutritionist? Just some thoughts. ...Read more
