If I have a UTI (not under meds) and get strep throat with fever over 101........Joint and body aches with sore throat........Can that make UTI worse?
Possible: Since you are not on antibiotics, your immune system has to do all the work. If you have other infections going on, your body may be weaker allowing the infections to worsen. However, even without the sore throat and joint aches, UTI will get worse over time. Also, with your combination of symptoms, I would get checked out asap and get antibiotics. All your symptoms may be from stds. ...Read more

Most are viruses: Toddlers are constantly chewing/sucking their fingers or touching the world around them. That gives them ample opportunity to sample every virus or bacteria that exists in their environment. Their mouth/throat is the entrance to their immune system and tonsils that react when stimulated. Strep is sensitive to antibiotics but the viruses must run their course. ...Read more

Difference between strep and sore throat? Gave blood monday and now have a sore or strep throat what's the cause?
My 12 yo son gets 5-6 colds each winter. Each lasts 3-4 days. Low grade fever, soar throat, body aches, strep is neg. Should I be concerned?
Not usually: It sounds like these are typical viral colds, that seem to go away in a typical fashion. Although 5-6 does seem to be a lot, exposure to new bugs, like starting a new school, could easily explain this. Also, if he has allergies this may predispose him to getting upper respiratory infections. Finally, make sure noone around him smokes, as this may contribute to frequent infections. ...Read more
Does strep always cause a sore throat? 2 kids in my house have strep throat, I think I see some swelling and whitish patches but no pain in my throat.
Strep throat: Great question! Streptococcal bacteria lives in our throat. When it becomes the predominant organism then we get pain as the immune system and the bacteria fight a war. There are some people that have strep in their throat all the time and they cohabitate in other words they are carriers are no signs of disease - Not treated. Evidence of disease is the redness, the white patches and the pain. ...Read more
I had tonsillectomy over 1 month ago. Recently I started feeling body aches & very sore throat with a low grade temperature. Could this be Strep?
Maybe strep, flu, etc.: Nose and throat symptoms can be from cold viruses, strep throat, allergies, etc... It can be difficult to tell what the cause is. If symptoms only last 1-2 days, it was likely allergies, irritation, or a mild cold. Doctors have rapid 5-minute tests for strep, so a primary care doctor can diagnose strep and start antibiotics "right away", which means within the first 3 days of strep symptoms. ...Read more
Can strep throat cause only mild sore throat with redness and mild flu like symptoms with temp of 99.0?
Yes: Some people have minimal symptoms with strep as adults & some actively carry it in their throat & never seem to get sick from it. Without a fever, I am reluctant to consider it an infection but when there are both fever & generalized symptoms it is likely not a simple carrier state. ...Read more

Diagnosed with HSV1. Is it possible that when an outbreak occurs that this could cause strep throat or sore throat if I’m performing oral sex.?
No: Strep throat is caused by a strain of strep bacteria. A person can catch strep throat through any activity that ends up putting live strep bacteria into her mouth. Very large white spot on tonsil. Strep and flu tests negative. Had mono 15 years ago. Severe sore throat, body aches, chills. Why spot if not strep?
Calcification: I often see residual white spot like a tiny calcification but usually not significant, try salt water gargles about 3 x/day, warm to hot tap water [not too hot where it burns] 1 oz with 1/8 teaspoon of salt, this may 'sandpaper' it off, if sore throat, could be virus unrelated, if all those symptoms, may have the flu, get tested [nasal swab rapid test] but can't treat if flu after 3 days ...Read more
