Can gas in the stomach cause heart palpitations?

Can gas in the stomach cause heart palpitations?

No: To be precise, gas in the stomach can not cause heart palpitations, but it can give the feeling like there is something happening to the heart when there is not. We frequently have patients who feel "palpitations" while wearing a heart monitor and we see no abnormalities of the heart rate or rhythm. So, the sensation can come from causes unrelated to the heart. ...Read more

Lower abdominal bloating with gas and difficulty breathing and heart palpitations. Is this a digestive or heart issue?

Digestive: The heart is like a ship in the ocean, buffeted by hormones secreted when things go wrong. That is probably causing your palpitations. The bloating may be pressing on your diaphragm causing the difficulty breathing. This does not seem to be a heart problem, but it is always prudent to have your heart checked. ...Read more

Why could gas cause heart palpitations?

Why could gas cause heart palpitations?

It may involve the vagus nerve, which controls GI tract as well as the heart, especially the electrical properties of cardiac tissue. Alterations in vagus activity, triggered by GI feedback, may alter conduction properties in heart muscle, leading to fast or irregular heart beats. ...Read more

Could having gas have anything to do with heart palpitations?

Could having gas have anything to do with heart palpitations?

It's possible: In general the two conditions are separate. However it is possible that gassy pain is actually heart pain because the heart is not getting enough oxygen. If the gas happens with exertion or emotional stress, then this would be more likely. The gassy pain and heart palpitations could then both be related to one underlying heart condition. But more info is needed to really know. ...Read more
