Prolapsed disc/sciatica- if it hurts, what to do?

Prolapsed disc/sciatica- if it hurts, what to do?

Pinched Nerve/Muscle: Most times back pain that is sudden onset will resolve. You should use anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen, aleve around the clock and even tylenol (acetaminophen) to help. Stretch and Ice the area. If this does not resolve you should see your doctor for other options. If it still does not resolve, I would recommend to see a spine specialist for a full evaluation and testing. You may need to get an MRI.

What could be causing my sciatica to hurt in my hip?

What could be causing my sciatica to hurt in my hip?

It's possible: I would see a pain/spine specialist to determine if your hip is involved or if its all coming from your spine.

I've been doing stretches that are supposed to be good for sciatica and piriformis syndrome, but I always hurt more later, what could be the cause?

Pelvis joints: The idea that you have pyriformis syndrome is a speculation. You might have a dysfunctional sacroiliac joint, and the exercises might be stretching these joints. An osteopth can help you to figure this out. See my chronic pain board at quora. Com (free) where I discuss these issues.

What are the simtoms of sciatica and can it hurt under your foot or heal?

Back & Leg/Foot Pain: Sciatica is pain in the distribution of the leg/foot as a result of an irritated nerve or facet joints or other injury typically in the lumbar spine (low back) which are caused by herniated disks, spinal stenosis or degenerative disc disease, etc requiring further evaluation by a spine specialist and may be candidate for facet injections/radiofrequency ablation and epidural steroid injection.

Sciatica what exercise can I do to help with my back? Also my knees hurt so much I struggle to get out of bed sometimes

Sciatica what exercise can I do to help with my back? Also my knees hurt so much I struggle to get out of bed sometimes

Exercise: There are a combination of back and core stretches and exercises for sciatic pain. Usually it is best to start with a visit to a physical therpist. If it is both knees, and there was no trauma, suggest a visit to primary care doc initially to r/o rheumatological sources for the pain, i.E rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, etc.

I got sciatica can it also affect my neck sometimes my neck will hurt and it affects me lifting my left arm is that also apart of sciatica?

I got sciatica can it also affect my neck sometimes my neck will hurt and it affects me lifting my left arm is that also apart of sciatica?

Likely Your Neck: Is the Issue. Sciatica is a term defining back and leg pain only. Typically either side of neck and head are provided sensation by nerves that supply them exiting out of the neck and head. Muscles also lying in that area may be the issue as well. If there is a history of neck pain that should be evaluated since there could be arthritis, nerve impingement or herniated disks involved.

Never exceed your...: ...doctor's prescription without his/her advice. Your doc knows you and your circumstances best as to what drugs and dose you require and can best tolerate.

Generally No: Cracking backs has not had any relationship with causing other issues. There could have been a problem you already had going on regarding the sciatica and has just gotten worse lately. I would consider further evaluation if things aren't getting better, maybe MRI of spine to see.

I have developed a constant pain in my left hip and it hurts when I walk. I suffered from sciatica a few years ago?

Separate Injury: Amanda, Sciatica tends to be a very broad and poorly used terminology by many practitioners without giving you a clear cause of your pain. While the back can be a source of hip pain, it more often then not isn't especially if the pain isn't going below your knee. I would have your hip evaluated by a ortho/sports specialist or physiatrist. Hope that helps.

I have had sciatica pain for 5 weeks now from heranited disc in l4/l5 how long will the pain last from in in my leg back doesn't hurt?

I have had sciatica pain for 5 weeks now from heranited disc in l4/l5 how long will the pain last from in in my leg back doesn't hurt?

Weeks to Months: Generally most people can get relief from sciatic pain doing the conservative care within 3-6 weeks. If it persists after that, it can take up to 6 months to heal by itself. You may still be a candidate for epidural steroid injections that may help relieve the pain while your body heals itself.

Lowerback pain, mostly in bum. Can't put socks on and hurts to sit down. Suffer with both Crohn's & Sciatica. Can either cause this. Pain was Sudden?

Sciatica yes: Sciatic nerve exits the pelvis just lateral to the center of your bum (buttocks). And is often caused by lower back injury or abnormality with is common with inflammatory bowel disease.

I was just diagnosed with sciatica. It doesn't really hurt when I stand or walk and I was wondering if I should be exercising more or less now. I just started taking prednisone.?

Less: Assuming the diagnosis is correct it would be wise to avoid strenuous exercise or any activity that involved frequent bending or lifting. As long as your normal activities (walking, light house work, etc) don't worsen your symptoms there is no reason to curtail them. **Avoid sitting for long periods at a time as this will aggravate a lumbar disc problem. I have severe pain above my right buttock on my lower back only hurts when I walk. Is this a disk or sciatica?

I have severe pain above my right buttock on my lower back only hurts when I walk. Is this a disk or sciatica?

Many possibilities: It could be caused by many different conditions: sacroiliac joint dysfunction, myofascial gluteal pain, disc disruption, 'sciatica' from a compressed nerve in your back, 'sciatica' from a compressed nerve in your buttock muscle (piriformis syndrome), referred pain from hip or lumbar spinal arthritis or a compression fracture of a vertebra. I'd suggest you see a physician to find the source.

How can u differentiate between sciatica pain & piriformis synrome? Pain above & down left buttock & leg hurts to stand sit lay

How can u differentiate between sciatica pain & piriformis synrome? Pain above & down left buttock & leg hurts to stand sit lay

Exam, studies, injec: It can be hard and piriformis syndrome as a diagnosis is likely often missed. Physical exam can help, a nerve conduction with the hip in neutral verses internal rotation can tell, response to injection into piriformis is most diagnostic. Also seeing a patient with severe pain running down the leg with a normal looking MRI of lumbar suggests something else like piriformis syndrome might be issue.

Had sciatica. Getting better. Son jumped on my back 4 me to carry him n hurt bad. Sat down n hands felt numb n tingly, still feel that way. Related?

Not likely: sciatica is related to lumbar and leg numbness, hands relate to neck so could have stunned the upper back, and hope temporary, if gets worse and over the counter meds like excedrin or alive /tylenol don't relieve it or biofreeze/cold packs or heating pad or warm bath, then need mri of neck to see disc disease
