Since many women with P COS experience some degree of hirsutism as a result of the elevated testosterone common with PCOS the Spironolactone is prescribed to block the receptors to prevent those hair changes. Does not lower level: Spironolactone is not a "testosterone" blocker per say. It designed to block aldosterone receptors from being activated. It is not perfect and does have some anti-masculine side effects (gynecomastia).
