Benzoyl peroxide: Bpo is a good place to start--there are many good over the counter preparations that you can leave on overnight and it will control mild acne. If you have moderate to severe acne, you are probably better off seeing a dermatologist and getting on more potent, prescription medication. The "scarring" you have noticed may be post inflammatory pigment, which will fade over time. ...Read more
I've had under skin blemishes for a few months and they aren't going away. How do I remove them from under the skin? I'm using acne scar cream now.
Many options: Hello and thank you for your excellent question. Skin blemishes can be caused by many different things, including dry skin, irritated skin, and acne (just to name a few). It is very difficult to give you a good recommendation without a full history and physical. I suggest that you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck! ...Read more
Not for scars: The hyperpigmentation that follows the acut lesions and lasts for a few weeks or months may respond to a hydroquinone skin lightener, though you may disfigure yourself if you're not careful. It's better to get your disease under control. Topical benzoyl peroxide is your best friend, and your physician may be able to add something if it's not sufficient. ...Read more
2 different problems: Acne scars can be improved by dermatologist. Dry, cracked heels need moisturizing cream or lotion applied often. I have acne scar but they are not deep they are on the surface is there an cream that can help lighten it? Like Mederma
Not a fan of Mederma: I am not a big advocate of mederma. The active ingredient is allium cepa (onion extract) and there is weak evidence to suggest that this is beneficial but the research behind medierma is some what not convincing. While it will not hurt unless you have a topical allergic reaction, it probably will not help. You are better off to try silastic sheeting or silicone gel + sunblock. ...Read more
Doctors, what best cream o product would you recommend for acne scars? Please help. I have deep scars and I don't want to hide myself anymore.
Acne scars: Chemical peels, when performed by a trained practitioner, may help reduce the appearance of acne scars but will not eliminate large or deep scarring. Laser therapy may be more effective. Vitamins, although not harmful in normal doses, are likely not going to change the appearance of skin scars significantly. Over the counter skin preparations probably won't give you desired results. ...Read more
Not reliably: First priority is to treat the acne. Once this is under control, the scars can mature, and hopefully fade. If the scars do not resolve see a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon for available treatments. There are many, because none are prefect. Bleaching creams, even the best ones, work about 1/3rd of the time with proper, long term use. ...Read more
