Does Silicone Gel Really Work For Scars
How does the silicone gel patch work on scars? I've been using it since 11/29/14. It help tremendously but I'm not sure if it's doing anything now
I have a few hypertrophic scars on my left inner forearm. They are a little over 2 years old and completely healed. Would silicone gel work on them?
Very useful: Silicone gel sheets, now available in patches by several manufacturers, have been found to be very useful in remodeling scar tissue. The gentle pressure applied to the skin by the patch will slowly flatten scars and keloids. They need to be worn regularly for several weeks to months for its full effect. ...Read more
I have 4 pigmented scars on my face. Would silicone gel (dermatix) work for these Scars. One is slightly hypertrophic.
Probably not: Sometimes we can inject the raised one with a steroid. For the darker marks there are a few options. It is best to see a dermatologist. In the meantime sun protection is essential. ...Read more
Not usually: More helpful on raised scars. Depressed scars more often require removal and repair to give the tissue margins better support under the skin. Depressions can occur with loss of deeper fat tissues, or if the wound separates due to tension after closure. See you local plastic surgeon for advice. ...Read more

Biocorneum gel, Mederma or hexilak silicone gel which of these 3 gel is better to treat scars which are created from stiches?

Keloid scar options: Keloids are scars that grow outside the boundaries of the original scar and usually require more agressive treatment such as surgery and injections. Scars that are thick or red but not keoids can be treated with various topicals, my recommendation being scar gel from skinmedica. Most scars improve over time without special treatment, and taping them for 6 weeks after surgery helps more than creams. ...Read more
What is the best treatment for hypertrophic scars, is it best to use silicone sheets or silicone gel. Or is it possible to use both?
Silicone sheets and gels can be very helpful but usually you need to be consistent and the usually time frame is three months. No need to use both just one or the other. However, it is not perfect and if there is not adequate resolution of the scar, you may need to seek consultation with a plastic surgeon or dermatologist.
Hope that helps. ...Read more

Please can you suggest me an effective medicine against acne scars? I was using hexilak silicone gel which was quiet effective. Should I continue.?
Acne Scarring: Micro needling can help with scars (adding PRP helps even more), fractionated lasers are better, but more expensive. A less invasive (but slower results) process would be laser genesis to the scars. If they are depressed you can use needle subcision or fillers to improve the appearance. Silicone gel has been shown to help scars. It's ok to continue that indefinitely. ...Read more
Can silicone gel sheet used on acne scars and mark left by acne and how long will it take to see the results?
Yes: Though it would be safe, I doubt that you would be able to keep the sheet in place long enough for it to be effective. For silicone gel sheeting to effectively flatten raised scars it should be used for, at least, 12-18 hours a day. There are more "convenient" ways to try and improve scars on the face. ...Read more

Hi, I hit forehead 10 days ago and 9 stitch up, for scar in my eyebrow, which product is better? Mederma scar gel or Kelo-cote Silicone? Thanks
Silicone based: Silicone based products are superior to Mederma which contains Allium, naturally occurring in onions. Studies have essentially been equivocal when looking at the effectiveness of Mederma. The effectiveness of silicone based products has been well demonstrated in research trials. ...Read more

Can silicon gel sheets fade the appearance of scars from laser tattoo removal? (The scar is about 3 years old).
Best treatment for a fresh nearly 3 weeks old keloid surgical scar on neck. I have starting yesterday to use the silicon gel called dermatix 15g.?
Excess scar: Unlikely a keloid (defined as a scar that grows outside the edges of the scar) and more likely a hypertrophic scar (excess reaction). Silicone gel sheeting is used to sooth and quiet the early scar. If symptomatic (like itching, stinging, etc) some will be treated by diluted kenalog (triamcinolone) (steroid) injections into the scar itself to attempt to slow or stop the scarring excesses. See your dr to confer. ...Read more

Materials: Saline implants are bags of saline, which has a certain feel and movement to it. Silicone gel implants are bags of silicone gel. Different feel and movement. Fill a balloon with water and fill another with jello and let set in fridge. Squeeze them and poke them with your finger to feel the difference. Silicone would be somewhat firmer than the jello, but same idea. Read up on them. Good Luck. ...Read more

Do you think I can treat a small keloid on my neck that has been there past 10 years with silicone gel?
Kenalog (triamcinolone) injection: You can certainly give it a try to see if the keloid responds to silicone gel, but I believe that it is very unlikely. To the extent that silicone gel helps, it is generally for fresh scars or active (irritated) keloids. It is much more likely that an injection of Kenalog (triamcinolone) would be helpful. Of course, as always, you need to see a physician to have it evaluated first to see if this would be helpful. ...Read more
Textured vs smooth silicone gel implants I have small breasts, size aa, and do not have too much breast tissue, my plastic surgeon recommended I use textured because I will getting my implants done abroad in s. Korea and will not have time to receive mass
Controversial: Textured implants are popular in europe but not widely used in the usa except for anatomic or cohesive gel shaped implants. They act like velcro and maintain the position of the implant and are associated with a lower risk of capsular contracture. However there may be concerns with traction rippling and in very thin patients, textured implants tend to be more palpable. ...Read more
Why does it take so long for the redness from a popped zit under the lip border to go away? Does daily silicone gel for a few weeks help?
Inflammatory Respons: The redness is due to lots of capillaries bringing in red ; white blood cells, nutrients ; removing waste to attack, control ; heal an inflammatory reaction to the material within the lesion. Pressure ; popping the lesion spreads irritating cytokines into the surrounding intercellular spaces, accentuating the inflammatory response. Additionally, bacteria on the skin now have better access. ...Read more
What is the best way to treat hammer toe (little toe)? I am using a silicone gel tube & wider shoes but still have pain.
Hammered toes: Hammer toes develop when the foot flexors take over the extensors and a hammered appearance of the toe ensues. They can be painful and despite wider shoes and silicon covers, may need to be corrected by a surgical procedure. A Podiatrist should be consulted to explain to you the procedure and its risks. Good luck. ...Read more
I have breast implants (silicone gel) for 10 years now and I feel something similar to air bubbles on both my breasts. Is there something to worry about?
Sometimes: This is not likely due to air bubbles, but may be a sign that the pocket around the implants is tightening. It may be something that can be safely ignored, but if it is bothering you, it can be fixed. If it is something to worry about, it can be brought to a quick resolution with a quick check-up with your plastic surgeon, or any board certified plastic surgeon in your area. ...Read more
