Does Sickle Cell Trait Have Symptoms If You Have A Bad Flu
Not other than flu: Sickle cell trait does not cause usual symptoms associated with sickle cell disease (homozygous sickle cell, hemglobin s-hemoglobin c disease, and sickle cell/beta thalassemia). However, sickle cell trait patients may experieince bloody urine, and at a high altitude (like in colorado), vaso-occulisve crisis may occur. This may also occur under extreme heat and stress.
None: Sickle cell trait has no symptoms unless there is another blood problem.See 1 more doctor answer

Not really: If it were not for the newborn screening done in all states we would not pick up these kids in childhood. These kids have pretty normal lives. If/ when their parents are aware they carry trait, we would look for it at some point but there would not be any urgency beyond the desire to know.
Trait is asymptomatc: A person with as hemoglobin (sickle cell trait is almost always asymptomatic themselves but can pass the mutated gene onto their children. A person with sshemoglobin (sickle cell anemia) is also sometimes asymptomatic, but often develops some symptoms including: anemia, fatigue, pain, slow growth, increased incidence of infection crises, etc.
Usually none: Having sickle cell trait means being a carrier for a mutation in one of the hemoglobin genes. It usually does not give any symptoms, but is able to be transmitted to ones children. If the other parent also has sickle cell trait or sickle cell anemia, then the children are at risk for possibly inheriting sickle cell anemia.
Sickle cell trait: Sickle cell trait shouldn't cause pain crises like someone with the disease. Trait can cause problems however such as inability to concentrate the urine (isosthenuria), blood in the urine (renal papillary necrosis), kidney cancer (renal medullay carcinoma), and sudden death if the patient gets dehydrated during vigorous physical exertion.
I have sickle cell trait, during a basketball game my knee went out lost feeling and swelled up, I can't run nomore is this a bad sign of the trait?
Confusing question: SS disease requires the genes for sickle cell from both parents, while S trait has it from one. You cannot change the genetic makeup that you were born with. Someone with trait can have a kid with SS if the partner has trait or SS.
Yes: Or one with trait and one with ss.See 1 more doctor answer
If me and boyfriend both have sickle cell trait, how will we prevent our children from having full sickle cell anemia?
Nothing: Unfortunately, there would be 25% chance for your child to have sickle cell disease and 50% chance for sickle cell trait. With our technology now, nothing can alter the risk. Sorry to say, the only thing for somebody with sickle cell trait to completely prevent any possibility of having a biological child with sickle cell disease is by having a child with somebody with normal hb.
No: There are varying forms of sickling diseases, however it is a recessive trait and so the parents may appear fine but carry the trait and yet have a child with the disease.See 1 more doctor answer
Yes: Sickle cell anemia requires the gene from both parents to cause ss anemia. If only one parent gave the gene, the kid would be a trait carrier.
Can a father with normal blood and a mother with sickle cell trait have a child with sickle cell anemia?
NO: To simplify- providing that the father has a completely normal blood - (no other type of congenital/hereditary bood disorder-like thalasemia minor, hemoglobin c disease etc) - the baby will have 50% risk to have sickle cell trait-but the baby will not have sickle cell anemia.
Hello, I want to know if there is a defferances in the level of hemoglobin s in the people who has sickle cell trait,,, ?
Yes: There are variations in the expression of Hb S gene and the depending on additional factors the percentage of Hb S in a person with the trait may vary from about 20-70%. The additional factor generally is beta thalassemia trait in the cis or trans position to the Hb S gene.
Sickle trait: Sickle trait means one copy of hemoglobin carries the mutation for sickle cell disease and the other copy is unaffected. Most people with sickle trait are unaffected by this. For athletes with sickle trait, it is essential to keep well hydrated. See http://www. Cdc. Gov/ncbddd/sicklecell/traits. Html for good recommendations.
Patient see his MD: Sickle cell trait usually does not cause any problems, but rarely, people die suddenly while undergoing very strenuous exercise that causes severe dehydration, such as during military or athletic training. Patient should be evaluated by his physician initially and in follow up to make sure patient does not have significant side effects.
Yes.: Pain crisis and even worse complications can occur in people with sickle cell trait. It is more likely to occur when dehydrated and when experiencing altitude changes. I have seen this be a problem when someone with sickle cell trait comes from sea level to the mountains for vacation. Important to stay well hydrated.
