How do you apply the selsun blue to the versicolor?

How do you apply the selsun blue to the versicolor?

I actually tell my: Patients to apply it neck down in the shower and leave on for 20 minutes then wash off. They should do that daily for two weeks then the scale should be gone and they can expose their skin to sunlight (10 minutes only a day and no burning) which will repigment the skin. If that doesn't work they need topical or oral prescriptions to clear the fungal infection ...Read more

I really need help finding a shampoo that fights dandruff but also works for extremely sensitive skin? I've had reactions to both selsun blue and dove.

Trial and error,: There is no rhyme or reason to the sensitivity you are experiencing. Many patients allergic to sulfa will react to Selsun. Dove is fairly mild. Neutogena is mild and non-allergenic and many of my patients have done well with Zinc products. A trial of Zincon shampoo may be helpful. If these don't work see your physician or Dermatologist for other options. Good luck and good hair. ...Read more

I used Nizoral (ketoconazole) anti dandruff shampoo accidently instead of selsun blue to get rid of skin irriation and it make my scrotum red/dry any suggestions?

Shouldn't cause any: The Nizoral (ketoconazole) should not cause any problems in the scrotal area. The Nizoral (ketoconazole) is an anti-fungal shampoo, so could help with jock itch in the scrotal area. The selsun blue is selenium- more for the scalp dryness and therefore helps the dandruff. ...Read more

I am using selsun blue dandruff shampoo & I notice I have more hair loss & more oily hair. But the dandruff are controlled, should I stop using it?

Dandruff blues: Dear KMcClure,
Dandruff can be caused by dry skin, allergies, fungal infection, or irritated skin. I would recommend to alternate shampoos between an anti-dandruff shampoo and non anti-dandruff shampoo. If your dandruff is already controlled using selsun blue 2-3x a week should work. For natural anti-dandruff products look for a shampoo with tea tree oil or even an essential oil of it. ...Read more

I use selsun blue anti-dandruff shampoo with 1% selenium sulfide. I got some in my eyes, washed it out as best I could. Still burns? Will I go blind?

Won't blind you: It'll heal itself. You're almost a grown man and need to get fears that you must surely recognize as unrealistic under control. You list "anxiety" as a problem -- this would be a great time talk with a therapist or counselor about why you have such fears as this and what you can do to be happier as life goes on. ...Read more

Selsun blue for my baby's fungus? My husband took our 6 mo old baby to the pediatrician and didn't get a lot of details...I know the md said the flaky scalp & some dryish looking spots on his body are fungus (didn't say what kind). He recommended selsun b

The: The pediatrician is referring to a condition called seborrheic dermatitis. It presents as flaky scalp (appears like dandruff) and dry patches on the skin. The cause is unclear. Some doctors believe it is due to a rare yeast. Treatment includes shampoos selsun blue. I usuallly tell parents to use a very small amount 2-3 times per week until they see an improvement. Also, brush your baby's scalp with a soft brush to loosen the flakes. If the selsun blue does not work ask your doctor for an alternative treatment. To answer the last part of your question, no you don't have to let it sit on the skin or scalp, just wash in usual fashion; lotion is fine. If the spots look more red after use and it persists then discontinue and consult your doctor. If it returns to previous state then no need to worry.
Take care. ...Read more

I have keratosis pilaris. Can I use anti dandruff shampoo selsun blue and urea cream and retin a (tretinoin) before bedtime?

Of course: It may actually help. "KP" is very common and will come and go probably for the rest of your life. If you take good care of yourself, your fitness and otherwise good health and how you carry yourself will keep anyone from noticing or caring about your skin. Several of my physician friends have it; they just laugh about it. Best wishes. ...Read more
