I was exercising (zumba) on the day my baby stopped developing. Could this have caused my blighted ovum if genetic tests of the sac came back normal?
No: Exercise is good, and doesn't bother a normal pregnancy. Women have had to work or otherwise exercise during pregnancy since the beginning of time. Life is not perfect, so if a defective fetus is created, the woman's body has the job of shutting down the pregnancy and getting rid of the embryo or fetus. That's how nature does its amazing work, both in humans and in our pets and animals. ...Read more

If my husband smoked marijuana regularly for 20 years and during the time we conceived, could this have caused our blighted ovum?
Not really: Sperm are made daily from stem cells & the one that gets through to fertilize the egg tends to be the healthiest & best swimmer. In this way men get a pass on many bad habits. Women, however, only have the eggs they are born with & anything they eat, drink or are exposed to in life affects the eggs. It is not fair but that's the mechanics of reproduction. They transport the eggs, good or bad, until use. ...Read more

Mosaicism, bad luck: A blighted ovum is a gestational sac without development of an embryo. Aspirin cannot kill a developing embryo, so eliminate that idea. When they test the blastomere for a normal chromosomal compliment, they test only one cell. Very rarely, mitotic nondisjunction can occur, perhaps during blastomere stage, and the embryo may form from that cell lineage, which might cause so much trouble it dies. ...Read more
