Does Prune Juice Make Baby Gassy If Im Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding and my 4 month old baby boy hasn't had a stool movement in 2 days. Should I worry? What should I do? I've tried prune juice to help.
Breast or formula ?: Breast fed infants can go a little every feed or overflow a diaper once a week. If it is soft when they go I don't worry about it. Formula fed babies usually have a more predictable pattern of daily stools. If stools are getting hard, i often try full strength prune juice, 1oz once or more/d. Takes about 3d to get things moving. ...Read more

Will Miralax (polyethylene glycol) and prune juice help pass/soften hard stool in the rectum? I haven't had a normal bowel movement in 10 days but I'm passing gas.
Infant constipation. We have tried prune juice oatmeal and soy milk and nothing is working. Can we use a stool softener and what foods to avoid.
Natural plugs: Apple sauce, bananas & rice cereal are the main constipators in most infants. Peaches, pears, plums & barley cereal are usually helpful in loosening them. Prune or apple juice(regular adult, not dilute baby) given in amounts of 1-2 ounces 1-2 x/day for a minimum of 3 days will usually loosen a kid. Good luck. ...Read more
My 7 months old formula fed son is constipated, I started him on baby food. Tried giving him prune juice but unsucessful. What else can I give him?
Depends: Try to find out if a particular food is causing this. I've noticed sweet potato, bananas and some cereals often do (but it could be something else). Try to eliminate that food or at least decrease. If none found, then make sure baby is getting enough liquids and fiber in diet. Then, you can try giving prunes and other fruits in higher amounts. If still not better, talk with your pediatrician. ...Read more
How much if any of the properties of prune juice will pass through the breastmilk to a child? If I drink it in moderation will my daughter benefit?
Insignificant: It will probably not have a significant effect to benefit your infant for her bowel movements. You might hear of anecdotal reports of laxative effects, however, no studies have concluded connections with a mother's intake of prune juice and subsequently breastfeeding and later facilitating looser stools in infants. ...Read more

Can I give sunsweet prune juice to my 2 month old baby? If yes how much quantity per day is safe? Is it ok to give only1oz of prune juice at a time
Why would you give?: In general, there is no indication, reason, or need to give any juice to an infant. This may only set himself up for a preference to consume sweetened foods later on. If baby is feeding well — preferably breast milk — and has normal stool output and make plenty of wet diapers, I would refrain from giving juice. There are some doctors who recommend this for mild constipation however. ...Read more

Diluted: What does constipated mean to you ? Normal stool output can vary from 6-8 times daily to once a week. Make sure you treat baby with help from your Peds, don’t do this alone!! Once this happens, try to decrease prune juice schedule ...Read more

Ask pediatrician about daily use of MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) (1/4-1/2 cap in bottle of juice) to help keep stools softer from "above" so glycerin needed less often "below.". ...Read more
