Does Prednisone Give You Energy
I just got over a difficult lupus flare. I'm on day 4 of prednisone 15mg. My symptoms area gone, but why am I so drained? Prednisone usually give me energy.
Fatigue: Fatigue is one of the symptoms of lupus and is one of the hardest to go away. I would not be discouraged over that but would continue with the prescribed treatment. You should start feeling better as you go. ...Read more
Prednisone is a synthetic cortisone. The body makes cortisone, a natural hormone made in adrenal glands. The body converts it to Hydrocortisone to become active. 25 mg of cortisone has about same effect as 5 mgm prednisone. The average person would produce 3-6 mg of pred daily. So why use a substitute? The synthetic has more anti-inflammatory effect; but has less effect ...Read more
I used to have lots of energy when I took prednisone. I felt wiped out the last 2 times I took it. Why would I have a paradoxical reaction like that?
I've recently come down with some sort of sinus, bronchial infection. Dr put me on amox. And prednisone. My energy is still horrible, my body still a?
Hyper: Prednisone already makes many people feel "bouncy". Throw in a stimulant and you may not feel well at all. You may also get indigestion or stomach pain. Prednisone is an anti inflammatory medication and energy drinks often contain lots of caffeine. The combination may be too much for your stomach, too. ...Read more

My 1 yr old was prescribed prednisone 3 days for croup. After 1.5 days she is better can I stop giving her prednisone or do I have finish the dose?
Finish if tolerating: Croup is usually short lived, hence the shorter course already prescribed. It is possible that the symptoms could return once the prednisone wears off. I would recommend finishing the prescribed course. That being said, croup is often treated with a one time dose of decadron (dexamethasone) in the emergency department... but this is a longer acting steroid. ...Read more
Usually Prednisolone: Albuterol is routinely given for asthma in infants and a trial of albuterol is often given to see if it can help wheezing caused by bronchiolitis or other conditions. With asthma, Prednisolone is more often used than Prednisone but they are both steroids with anti-inflammatory activity. Prednisolone or Dexamethasone are the steroids most often used to treat significant croup in infants as well. ...Read more

I have had itchy hives for about 6 months and drs give me prednisone and it goes away. I get joint and muscle pains with too. What could it be?
Well: If you had taken Prednisone in moderate doses for several months, then the bone pain may well be from the cortisone effect (bone loss). However it the pain occurred at the same time as the hives, I would be more concerned with an autoimmune process and would advise you to consult a rheumatologist. ...Read more

Ask your doctor: Lupus is an incredibly complicated disease. Given the medicines you are on you obviously have a rheumatologist. These really are questions for your doctor. Given the complexity of the disease, if you don't feel like you are getting good answers to your questions from your doctor you should find a rheumatologist in your area the specializes in lupus and get another opinion. ...Read more
An Allergist is the one giving me the Xolair shots and is watching my prednisone intake. A dermatologist did a biopsy that was inconclusive, and sent me to the allergist. I am just looking for alternative treatments?
For?: I am guessing you have chronic hives, but it sounds like a virtual consult would be most appropriate. A physician practiced in treating refractory hives would need to know more about the duration, frequency/severity, co-existing symptoms, triggers, work-up to date and medications tried before offering an opinion on potential alternatives. Good luck to you, this is a frustrating scenario. ...Read more

Stress hormone: Your body makes a stress hormone very similar to Prednisone every day. A short course (5-7days) is often used to assist your hormone response as an anti-inflammatory to avoid prolonged symptoms. Prolonged use can suppress the immune system & should be avoided. Antihistamines can be beneficial if the issue is histamine based but will replicate all the benefits of the steroid. ...Read more

Short-acting drug: Prednisone itself has a half-life of about an hour, but it is converted in the body to prednisolone, which lasts about a day.
