Strep vs. cold: The post nasal drip probably didn't cause the sore throat, but all these symptoms are probably attributable to a cold at best, strep throat at worst. Sore throat with swollen nodes, especially with cough, should be evaluated by a doctor for strep throat, because in that case one would require antibiotics, more than just simple cold remedies like chicken soup or tylenol (acetaminophen). Treat the drip..: Treating the cause/drip is the way to go... Currently, steroid nasal sprays are first-line treatment for nasal allergies. Antihistamines such as zyrtec/claritin/allegra/benadryl (available otc) may help, but steroid still the best. Often nasal allergies/congestion cause you to breath via mouth during sleep and thus inducing the sore throat. I suggest consulting your doc for eval/treat. Good luck. ...Read more

Sore throat: You have two different problems. The allergic post nasal drip will be solved with Flonase in a few weeks.
