Dose-dependent: The more MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) you take the faster it works. As a once over-the-counter dosed laxative you may not see results for 3-4 days, but as a multi-dosed colonoscopy preparation (when used under doctor's advice) expect laxation within hours. As with any laxative however understand its mechanism of action, its risks, ; treatment goals ; make sure you are not missing obstruction, dysmotility, inflammation. ...Read more

Is it normal for amitza to work slowly throughout the day I notice it's better then miralax (polyethylene glycol).?

Sounds fine: Different laxative-type medications have varying effects on different people. If Amitiza (lubiprostone) is working better, one can talk about that with one's doctor, and perhaps use the Amitiza (lubiprostone) as one's main medication for chronic constipation. Linzess is similar to Amitiza (lubiprostone), as both slow the body's absorption of water from the stool in the intestine, thus preventing the stool from getting drier. ...Read more

Does Miralax (polyethylene glycol) has risk for kids if takes one- two cups a day for few months? Is there any natural safe solution for constipation beside the Miralax (polyethylene glycol)?

Safe and a blessing: Chronic stool retention has been around as a problem for decades. We used to use flavored mineral oil which was messy and leached out vitamins. Mirilax came along and was tested in prescription form for years before proven so safe it went OTC. I have had kids who needed it for a year to straighten out their system. The most common reason for treatment failure is stopping it too soon. ...Read more
