Probable overflow: These are probably loose stools around an impaction. A cleanout as recommended by your pcp or GI doc, followed by daily miralax, (polyethylene glycol) mineral oil and fiber such as popcorn, along with designated toilet sitting time, should help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Hours to days.: Miralax (polyethylene glycol) works by absorbing water from the colon allowing it to move easier through the bowel and pass the stool. It probably needs to be taken daily to be effective. It is not like milk of magnesia or citrate of mnagnesia, which should only take few hours to be effective. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
How long does it take miralax (polyethylene glycol) to work? I've been taking it since thursday, march 6, with no results.

Is it normal for amitza to work slowly throughout the day I notice it's better then miralax (polyethylene glycol).?
Sounds fine: Different laxative-type medications have varying effects on different people. If Amitiza (lubiprostone) is working better, one can talk about that with one's doctor, and perhaps use the Amitiza (lubiprostone) as one's main medication for chronic constipation. Linzess is similar to Amitiza (lubiprostone), as both slow the body's absorption of water from the stool in the intestine, thus preventing the stool from getting drier. ...Read more

Would Plan B interrupt my other prescribed meds (miralax (polyethylene glycol) and dolcolax)? Is it safe to take it while on those meds? Will it still work?
Does Miralax (polyethylene glycol) has risk for kids if takes one- two cups a day for few months? Is there any natural safe solution for constipation beside the Miralax (polyethylene glycol)?
Safe and a blessing: Chronic stool retention has been around as a problem for decades. We used to use flavored mineral oil which was messy and leached out vitamins. Mirilax came along and was tested in prescription form for years before proven so safe it went OTC. I have had kids who needed it for a year to straighten out their system. The most common reason for treatment failure is stopping it too soon. ...Read more
