What causes fetal growth restriction?

What causes fetal growth restriction?

MF/placental factors: Maternal-fetal and placental etiologies can all cause fetal growth restriction. Severa fetal syndromes can lead to fgr (e.g. Down, patau, triploidy, edwards, noonan's, digeorge). Multifetal pregnancies are at increased risk for fgr; this can result in fetal demise, fetal brain injury, cerebral palsy or even normal outcomes in non-syndromic cases. Placental infarcts, hypertension, lupus: culprits. ...Read more

Placental Insufficiency (Definition)

Placental insufficiency is a rare pregnancy complication of insufficient blood flow to the placenta during pregnancy. It is a potentially serious complication. If it is not detected and treated as soon as possible, can lead to life-threatening health complications for ...Read more

Can progesterone defiency cause placental abruption ?

Can progesterone defiency cause placental abruption ?

Great question!: Not known. Placenta is the major producer of Progesterone in pregnancy, and Progesterone serves to keep the uterus quiet as the fetus grows. It is possible that perturbations in the uteroplacental interface (eg placental infarction) could lead to both Progesterone decline and increased risk for abruption. No study has addressed this to date; abruption remains an impossible complication to predict. ...Read more

Does congenital heart defects lead to growth changes?

Does congenital heart defects lead to growth changes?

They can/some don't: Congenital heart defects include a number of conditions that vary greatly in their impact on final growth. The more severe the defect, the more likely it will require multiple surgeries and impair the bodies strength & growth. The cyanotic or blue baby group of defects are more likely to do this. Some defects, like the common small VSD self correct & seldom if ever alter the patients life. ...Read more

Does pregnancy-induced hypertension cause placental abruption?

Does pregnancy-induced hypertension cause placental abruption?

Yes: High blood pressure, whether present before pregnancy or whether it develops during pregnancy, does increase a woman's risk for abruption. But most women with high blood pressure never have an abruption. ...Read more

Is it possible for mild cerebral palsy to cause delay growth, prolonged growth or even stunted growth?

Is it possible for mild cerebral palsy to cause delay growth, prolonged growth or even stunted growth?

Cerebral palsy is a : group of disorders of impaired motor functions described by the way they limit mobility, posture, arm/ hand use & oral motor skills. In kids with CP, growth is slower than that of neurotypical peers, the difference is greater with age. Puberty may be delayed & last longer. Poor oral motor function, endocrine problems & gastroesophageal reflux all can impact nutrition, growth & body composition. ...Read more

How hypoglycemia associated with neonatal growth hormon deficiency?

How hypoglycemia associated with neonatal growth hormon deficiency?

Growth Hormone: Growth hormone does much more than just affect growth. It is very active in metabolism of many types of cells, including those involved in the processing of sugars. So if you can't process the sugar in your diet correctly, it can lead to blood sugar being too low - hypoglycemia. Work closely with a pediatric endocrinologist as this is a significant disorder. ...Read more

If high bp, what is risk for fetal injury from reduced placental perfusion secondary to vasospasm?

IUGR: Intrauterine growth retardation can be caused by decreased blood flow to the placenta. Asymmetric iugr has a better prognosis than symmetrical iugr, but every pregnacy is unique and you should discuss this with your ob. ...Read more

Go see another doc: Stop feeling guilty & depressed. Excessive ejaculation won't increase your testosterone and it has nothing to do w/your height. Otherwise, all men would be "short". If you haven't had a bone age xray done yet, get one to give yourself an idea of what to expect. If growth plates are fused, you won't grow any taller. But if growth plates are open, you may still have a chance. ...Read more

Study(www.Ncbi.Nlm.Nih.Gov/pubmed/12659241) says abstinence causes spike in t levels by 145%. Could these spikes cause early closure of growth plates?

Not likely: This was a small study looking at variations in testosterone levels after ejaculation. The clinical significance of these findings is unknown, and not likely to be meaningful for otherwise healthy males. Testosterone effects occur over many weeks and months, and are not affected by small or short term fluctuations in levels. ...Read more

Does diabetes cause fetal deformities?

Does diabetes cause fetal deformities?

Yes: Uncontrolled diabetes in the first trimester can cause birth defects in the baby, typically heart or skeletal defects. Gestational diabetes acquired later in pregnancy is typically not associated with fetal deformities, but can also cause problems such as a big baby or problems with the amniotic fluid. ...Read more

Can abnormal TSH or estrogen levels make an adult female grow taller (in 30s)? Would abnormal excessive growth hormones be the cause of that to occur

Can abnormal TSH or estrogen levels make an adult female grow taller (in 30s)? Would abnormal excessive growth hormones be the cause of that to occur

No: Linear growth is controlled by growth centers in the long bones and vertebrae, Once they close after puberty, one does not grow taller. Estrogen actually signals the growth centers to close. Growth hormones in excess can increase bone thickening and organ density/size, but will nor make a mature adult grow taller. Sylvester Stallone would be a seven footer if it did. ...Read more

What causes a placental abruption ?

What causes a placental abruption ?

Shearing forces: Abruption is a bleed from the placenta; a disruption of either the mother or baby's blood supply. Many causes: trauma, high blood pressure, drugs (cocaine), preterm labor, polyhydramnios. Can be very large or very small, so even US can miss a diagnosis. Symptoms: usually preterm contractions, sometimes vaginal bleed. Fetal monitoring is necessary. Wait, watch; abruption can self-heal sometimes. ...Read more
