Parlodel (bromocriptine) ovulation: Parlodel (bromocriptine) is often used to treat hyperprolactinemia and help ovulation. Women with hyperprolactinemia many times will ovulate while taking parlodel (bromocriptine) once their prolactin levels are normal. However it they don't ovulate then clomiphene can be used. We usually start with 50 milligrams of clomiphene a day for 5 days and slowly increase until ovulation or 150 mg per day for 5 days, before switch. ...Read more

Been having bromocriptine tablets for 22 days now still not had my period why is this?

Been having bromocriptine tablets for 22 days now still not had my period why is this?

Be patient: Hi. I assume you're treating a prolactinoma. It takes time for the prolactin level to normalize and then for normal rhythmic hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian function to resume. Your prolactin dose may not even be adequate yet, so further dosage adjustment may be necessary before your periods resume. Be patient. Are you tolerating the bromocriptine OK? Good luck! ...Read more

Period came 3 days early and lasted for only 2 days. I am also taking bromocriptine. Can I be pregnant?

Possible: It is possible that by lowering your prolactin level the bromocriptine could have you ovulating and if you have had unprotected intercourse you could be pregnant. When in doubt check a pregnancy test. Good luck. ...Read more

Pituary gland tumour it is 7mm am on bromocriptine&have been having it for 1 month&period has already came back I ave 2.5 my doc said you need 5mg why?

Tumor shrinkage: Hi. Many prolactinomas shrink in response to bromocriptine. Return of periods and cessation of lactation are two goals of therapy, but so is tumor shrinkage. Are you tolerating the bromocriptine OK? If so, the tumor might get more shrinkage on 5 mg than on 2.5 mg. If you get really good control for a couple of years, sometimes you can stop the bromocriptine entirely and the tumor stays gone. ...Read more

Prolactin: It may take a few months. Also, it depends on how high the prolactin level was, and whether or not the 2.5 mg is lowering prolactin sufficiently. You may need a higher dose, but it is wise to start low and work up. Go with your doctor's advice and be patient. ...Read more

Too early: prolactin level might come down after two weeks of therapy with dopamanergic agents. Titration of the dose may be required as well as more time. Long term use of Bromocriptine requires monitoring for pulmonary and retro peritoneal fibrosis. Your adenoma can be surgically removed if it gets a bit larger. ...Read more

Prolactinoma?: Hi. Why are you being treated with bromocriptine? I must assume for a prolactinoma, but it would be better not to guess. Prolactinomas often cause amenorrhea, and bromocriptine can restore periods...but usually not after only 3 days of treatment. If you are dizzy and/or have a fast heart rate, go to the ER. Otherwise, see your gynecologist. Good luck! ...Read more

Take a test: Anyone having intercourse without birth control or condoms may get pregnant. Home pregnancy tests are very accurate. They are the same tests used in a doctors office. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period. The abdominal pain will need to be evaluated separately. ...Read more

High Prolactin: If you were started on bromocriptine for an elevated proloactin then that explains your cycle irregularity. High prolactin levels inhibit the menstrual cycle. That is often how the benign brain tumor called a prolactinoma is found. Normally the medication is given daily not just for 8 days. Clarify the plan with your treating physician. ...Read more

Anovulation?: There are multiple reasons for breakthrough bleeding pregnancy being #1. You should rule that out first if not done so already.
