However high cholesterol or very low cholesterol is not ideal. High cholesterol must be balanced with good cholesterol (HDL) so that it can be removed from the body. Olive oil.: While olive oil is one of the healthier oils as far as the proportions of healthy fasts versus unhealthy fats, it's still an oil, with 18 grams of fat per tablespoon, and could raise your LDL and triglycerides if you use too much. May increase LDL: Prescription fish oil (lovaza) is indicated for treatment of high triglyceride, but in doing so it actually raises the LDL a bit. Taking it as a supplement (smaller dose--1/4 of dose) may not do much at all in term of changing the lipid profile. So, if u need to lower ldl, fish oil is not the way to go. Consult doc.
