Does Neosporin Heal Scars
It will not: It's an antibacterial ointment to fight infections.
Be careful!: I am not a fan as it is well-known that 20% of patients who use neosporin regularly will become allergic to it! Applying any of these products to a scar is useless and there are safer products to use on wounds (polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) or bacitracin, for example). I really can't think of any reason one would want to apply 2 of these products at once, unless you want an itchy red rash!See 1 more doctor answer
See below: Most people don't need anything other than come cacao butter on the wound to help the healing. Prolonged use of neosporin will lead to problems. Use of me derma and silicone sheeting may be helpful when called for.
No: Nothing "gets rid of a scar. Neosporin works on new cuts. Good wound care can help improve the ultimate appearance of a scar. Once a wound is healed neosporin will have no effect. Be careful, many people develope an allergy to neosporin.
No: Scars are permanent. Their appearance will improve with time. Avoid sun exposure until all the pink is gone from the scar as they may burn easily and tan permanently if exposed to sun while they are immature. Application of silicone sheeting and preparations like mederma may hasten the maturation process. Neosporin is an antibiotic ointment with no effect on established scars.
I am 4 months removed from Achilles surgery. The scar I have is still sensitive. Is it ok to use neosporin or is there a better way to reduce the scar?
Small pimple on nose grows to large open scab 2 times now. Both left side different places. What could it be? Leaves scar behind after neosporin.
Get it checked: Lesions that don't heal and come back like this, especially on sun-exposed areas, should be evaluated by a dermatologist and skin cancer ruled out.
B-friend's penis has a couple red scabs. Neosporin helps, but when penis gets hard, skin expands, the skin cracks. Looks like it is scarred. Thoughts?
My daughter fell on her face and the doctor prescribed muciprocin. She has no infection I don't want her to be left with a scar should I use neosporin?
I had a scab, which is removed now and it shows pink skin do I put neosporin on it or aloe vera cream. Is this a scar? How can I prevent it to scar
Leave it alone: I don't know how severe or large your skin injury was, or where it is on your body. But your skin was/is trying to heal itself underneath the scab, and you removed it before it could do that completely. All new skin is pink, whether or not it's going to scar. It may continue healing ; resolve. Don't use an antibiotic (including ointment) unless it looks infected (oozing pus, swollen, etc.).
Over 30 days, cracks corners of mouth, appears white like scar tissue, spreading, small white ulcers, some swelling, been treating with peroxide, abreva, neosporin, chap stix no results
2 questions:can I now start using neosporin on my scar? What do you think of trying to conceive 6 months after open heartsurgery? I am 24 years old and I had open heart surgery called the ross procedure on november 2nd, 2011 due to my bicuspid aortic valve
2 answers: There is no real benefit to applying neosporin, vitamin e, mederma, etc to your scar. It is advisable to use sun block when outside. Pregnancy is certainly possible after a ross procedure but should be carefully monitored by your cardiologist and obstetrician. Remember, even after successful heart surgery, you require lifelong monitoring by a cardiologist.See 2 more doctor answers
My daughter (16m) got a cut on the crown of her nose. I put a little Neosporin for kids on it. Will it help with scarring like the original kind does?
Yes: Also add a light topical moisturizer so the area does not crack or dry out
I have stitches on my upper eyebrow. To reduce the change of too much scarring and infection what type of neosporin should I use? Or A and D ointment
Neospiirin ointment!: It is better than the cream at keeping moisture out. A&D, little benefit.
I only have ibuprofen... Is that okay? Will Vaseline help prevent scarring/permanent discoloration? It's all along the side of my face. I have both Neosporin and Vaseline. Should I apply a dressing afterward, or allow it to air dry? Sorry for so many
? Scarring?: How did this happen to you? How long ago? How deep are the cuts? A superficial cut (which only cuts the epidermis) will heal without scar. Deeper cuts may well scar. Ibuprofen is for pain and inflammation and neosporin is to prevent infection. You can see a cosmetic dermatologist or a facial plastic surgeon for more advice.
Can do better: No one needs to have bad acne or acne scarring in this day and age. I start folks on cheap topical Clindamycin which usually works; if that fails, cheap systemic tetracycline (kept mine under control for 25 years). A dermatologist can offer you even more potent retinoic acid-related meds, especially if it's cystic acne. You have a choice.
