Claritin D sleep works great to clear nighttime nasal congestion but now I'm awake and jittery due as side effect. Other options? (mucinex (guaifenesin) D)?
I am debating between taking Sudafed or Mucinex I have a lot of mucus and nasal congestion. Which one will you recommend provide faster releive?

Nasal congestion: Stay away from nasal decongestants, they are not designed to help you or your friends. They cause rebound congestion in the nose and are addictive. Decongestants: Depending the type you are taking and your medical history decongestants can be taken safely. They can be taken everyday as long as you follow the recommended dosages and frequencies. Afrin (oxymetazoline) rebound: Afrin (oxymetazoline) causes severe narrowing of the blood vessels in the nose and thus the effect on decongestion. However prolonged constriction leads to decrease blood supply to the tissue and may lead to permanent damages. The nose also becomes less responsive to afrin (oxymetazoline) with prolonged use. Flonase counteracts inflammation and Astelin is an antihistamine and neither constricts the blood vessels. Read more

Nasal sprays: All nasal steroids take a few days to start working and need to build up a dose before they become fully effective. Nasal antihistamines are quicker in onset of actiion.
