Not a side effect!: Minoxidil doesn't cause increased hair loss, although, once minoxidil is stopped, it will resume, often at a faster rate. But minoxidil is effective only for male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia). If another condition is causing it, Minoxidil won't help you. Since Minoxidil is OTC, you might not have seen a doctor. I recommend that you see a dermatologist. ...Read more

Hair loss: No adverse effect from stopping use of topical Minoxidil aside from hair loss. Weight gain is not reported as a side effect of Minoxidil in www.Epocrates.Com so be sure to focus on nutrition & physical activity as therapeutic options for your weight gain.
