Does Methadone Affect Child Custody Cases
I, m 34 yrs and going to be 35 soon am on 65mls methadone and want a 2nd child can I do a quick detox once im pregnant as don't want to wait to cut down?
If you are ready: You need to do it before you become pregnant. And that is if you are ready- have a support system, not using any other drugs of abuse or alcohol. It is not recommended to detox in the first trimester because of potential for miscarriage, or in the last trimester because of other complications. So only the middle 12 weeks is available, when it is more difficult to detox.Talk to counselor/nurse/doc. ...Read more
My husband is on 70mg daily of methadone. But he has a child from a previous relationship pre methadone. will he be able to get me pregnant?
Could be challenging:
Long term methadone use in males has been associated with decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and damage to sperm. If your husband had no problems with fertility before you will find out soon enough what the issues may be now. Stopping methadone can reverse such effects.

What do you suggest if my friend is 7monthspregnant and takes methadone w/o dr. order.she insists her baby is fine.what do you think?
Methadone & pregnant: Taking non-prescribed methadone while pregnant is dangerous! If not rx'ed, it can't be known what else may be in the "meth" and what other substances, are being ingested. The best choice ur friend could make is to TELL HER MD. In so doing, she may be transitioned to rx'ed methadone, get safe prenatal care, & avoid the trauma of being separated from baby when tox+ at delivery. TELL MD & get care! ...Read more
Well, likely not but: It is a dose dependant response. We use post op opiods all the time without an issue. Did u just start it or we're u on it in pregnancy? What is the dosage? What have u been doing thus far and how has the baby responded? Generally the transfer into breast milk and serum concentration will be low in a baby but it is dose dependant and response based on fetal exposure. I don't wanna give bad info. ...Read more

EXTREME hair loss over past several months. Had baby 10mo ago. Also on methadone for pain for past 6mo. Which is more likely to be causing hair loss?
Not the methadone: there are a number of drugs which can be associated with hair loss, but I have not seen, heard of or read about this occuring with methadone. Post-partum hair loss, however, is well described and is likely the cause. Talk to your PCP and see about getting a dermatology referral. ...Read more

The : The most important thing in this complicated situation is that the patient closely establish with a gynecologist so that she can have a complete evaluation including an ultrasound. Although all medications carry risks during pregnancy, in the majority of cases the baby is fine. Of course with Methadone there are risks of addiction at birth so the baby will need to be monitored closely, and Coumadin (warfarin) is a blood thinner that can't be taken during pregnancy but there alternatives such as variants of heparin. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
