Does mederma work on keratosis?

Not a fan of Mederma

I do not recommend Mederma as I have not seen the benefits of treatment. It needs to be applied 4 times a day which is not practical for the typical individual. Furthermore the true science is lacking.

Does mederma work fpr dermatofibroma?

Not a scar

Cicatrix
Mederma is proposed for scar improvement. A dermatofibroma is a benign tumor which originates in the deeper layer of the skin, the dermis and extends upwards. Nothing short of surgery will remove a dermatofibroma.

Does mederma work well on acne scars and age spots?

Mederma won't work

Wounds
Mederma can be helpful for surgical or traumatic wounds during the healing period. Once scars have matured it is unlikely that Mederma will result in any improvement.

Dr. Mark Burke answered:

Will mederma really work on scars?

No

Open-uri20131215-22308-1kfkefv
Mederma and the majority of topical treatment for scars have been shown to have no improvement on normal wound healing, (but it won't hurt.) Vitamin E and massage have some very week evidence of benefit. Protection from the sun is the thing that has shown the most benefit- use and reapply good sunblock during the first year of healing.

Can mederma work for chemical burn scars?

Better to go with

Scarring
silicone sheeting and a custom fitted pressure mask. There's lots of research in the burn literature to show this is an effective method for reducing scar thickness and improving the appearance. Mederma - not so much...

Sorry, I wrote a previous question too. Which would work better for scars? Mederma or silicone? Thanks!

Probably silicone

Cicatrix
They both can help but the best answer is the one that you use correctly. Mederma's instruction is to massage the cream on the scar about four times a day; no one really does this. Silicone solution has to be applied daily and allowed to dry. Silicone pads have to be held in place on the scar for months. Use the product that works best for your scar location and lifestyle.

No!

Mederma is simply onion extract. It has been studied and has absolutely no effect on scarring. It's only effect is hypersensitivity in a small percentage of people. Massage will help and possibly revision with time
