Cancer (Definition)

Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more

Can heavy masturbation cause prostate cancer?

Can heavy masturbation cause prostate cancer?

No: Things that actually cause cancer are those that mutate genes or make cells divide. This isn't happening when you entertain yourself. People have even looked at frequency of ejaculation and prostate cancer; there's no effect one way or the other.

New girlfriend says masturbation can cause prostate cancer. Is this true?

New girlfriend says masturbation can cause prostate cancer. Is this true?

No link demonstrated: Much concern over a small, case-controlled study reported in january 2009 issue of bju international which reported increased rate of prostate cancer for men in 20's and 30's who masturbated 2-7x/week (and a lower rate for men in their 50's who masturbated often). There are many reasons not to believe the reported conclusions, and it has not been confirmed in other studies.

Does masturbation reduce my chances of getting prostate cancer?

Does masturbation reduce my chances of getting prostate cancer?

Sex and prostate: Cancer is almost always thought about by patients, but they rarely ask. It is still a taboo subject, so I tell them that there is no evidence that having or abstaning from sex with self, others, even bestiality, homosexual encoounters, having any influence on getting or protecting from prostate cancers. There were studies looking at rc priests, but we will not go there...Most men masturbate.

Could frequent masturbation increase the risk of prostate cancer?

Could frequent masturbation increase the risk of prostate cancer?

It just doesn't: One of the cults is telling this to young people to frighten them. It's totally made up. These people are rotten. Enjoy your body, and accept the reassurance that it also won't make you demented, bald, infertile or any of the other stuff. Think about something wholesome -- maybe the person that you do / will love -- rather than internet garbage.

Masturbation at 20-30 's increase the risk of prostate cancer. While at 50's it lowers the risk. Is it true?

Masturbation at 20-30 's increase the risk of prostate cancer. While at 50's it lowers the risk. Is it true?

Just not true: It would be difficult to find a control group. There's not a shred of evidence that this is true. The claim that young men give themselves cancer in this way was made up by one of the cults to frighten vulnerable teens. "Heroic abstinence" is strongly suspected as a risk factor for benign prostatic hyperplasia but obviously we can't do controlled studies. I'm sorry people lied to you.

Is masturbation really a preventative against prostate cancer?

Unclear.: Two studies have suggested a protective association between prostate cancer and frequency of ejaculation (giles et al, 2003; leitzmann et al, 2004). Giles et al reported that the protective effect was seen in men in their 20s, who reported greater than 5 ejaculations per week. These are small studies, and the basis for this association is unknown.

Can masturbation prevent prostate cancer in older men?

Can masturbation prevent prostate cancer in older men?

Probably not: It's not possible to do controlled prospective studies; the last one I saw a few years ago related more frequent ejaculation to less prostate hyperplasia (confirming a traditional idea), but not affecting cancer risk either way. This makes sense biologically.
