If blood tests come back normal, does that mean you don't have lymphoma? How is lymphoma truly diagnosed?
Lymphoma.: Lymphomas are a diverse group of diseases. Usually diagnosed by clinical suspicion followed by confirmatory labs and imaging. Normal labs do not rule out the disease but if there is nothing to suggest the disease then normal labs almost certainly excludes it. If there is a nodule or suspicious lesion a biopsy is in order. ...Read more
I have a lipoma on my back. Is this something to be worried about and will I get more? Is this related to lymphoma?
My husband was prescribed prednisone for hives. It keeps them at bay, but when he tapers it, they come back. Is it possible it's lymphoma? He hasn't h
See an allergist: A male that has hives that recur after stopping prednisone sounds like chronic urticaria (a fancy word for long term hives). Chronic urticaria can be caused by many different reasons. He should see an allergist/immunologist. This type of specialist will be able to do a thorough history and physical examination to determine if he requires more testing. ...Read more
Decreased risk.: The earlier the stage the more likely the disease will be put into remission. Despite best efforts however nothing is 100%. However, the earlier the stage the better the chances. Not everyone with nhl will relapse and early stages (1, 2a) carry the best chances of long term remission. ...Read more
X ray of chest come back clear, lymph node swelling gone down but are still large but doctor still does not want to rule out lymphoma?
Need more info: Not enough information to answer your question. Many people have enlarged lymph nodes in the neck or groin, usually less than 1 cm, that are not malignant, but should be examined carefully, measured a few times, and biopsied if worrisome or enlarging. If your lymph nodes are very numerous or elsewhere, talk to doctor. Other blood tests could help find cause. ...Read more
I am having pains in the lymph node that was biopsied and found to have non-hodgkin's lymphoma the aggressive fast-growing you think that is an indication that it has come back after being free from cancer for a year and?
Grandma diagnosed with stage 3 non-hodgkins lymphoma. After 3 years of treatment she's completely cancer free. High or low chance cancer will come back?
It depends: There are several different types of Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas (NHL). The common ones include Follicular lymphoma which is low grade and indolent but can relapse even after 3-5 years of remission. The other common one is called Diffuse large B cell (DLBCL). This is potentially curable and very unlikely to relapse after 3 years of remission. So check which su-btype of NHL does she have. ...Read more

Other causes, too: Have you played with a kitten and been scratched lately? Could be something else like Cat Scratch Fever. Please see your primary care physician for exam and evaluation. You may need a biopsy of the lymph node. If you had lymphoma, having a lymph node easy to biopsy is fortunate. ...Read more

? ganglion cyst: The most common lump that people get on the back of the hand is a ganglion cyst. It is caused when a bit of the synovium (lining of the joint) pops out in a joint space. They are benign and usually go away on their own. This is not a typical presentation for lymphoma. If you are anxious about it have your doctor take a look. ...Read more

What to do next when you have hodgkin lymphoma & undergone 2 chemo session and the ldh level when back to normal from 439 to 207? What lab test?
Hodgkin's lymphoma: With hodgkin's lymphoma we can see a dramatic response clinically (or ldh dropping) or on a pet scan just after 2 cycles. Lymph node under my armpit that I can feel for two years. Had u/s done and it came back normal. I had a normal cbc. Could this be lymphoma? Hasn't grown.
Not typically: Gastric malt lymphoma is usually characterized by being localized to the stomach alone. The back of the tongue is a part of another lymphatic region known as waldeyer's ring and people can develop lymphoma there, but swollen tastebuds is not a common appearance for lymphoma. So they are not guaranteed to be related. If you have a gastric malt and are suspicious, see an ent. ...Read more
I had stage 4 aggressive non-hodgkin's lymphoma last year, 6 months later I am cancer free! What are the chances of it coming back?
Better than even: This depends on variables including your age (younger does better), but even ten years ago, about 2/3 of people with stage IV (and stage is the major prognosticator) who were alive at one year were alive at ten (at which point it's unlikely to recur). Your oncologist has better numbers, but for any individual, it's either 0% or 100%. Cherish each new day, and best wishes. ...Read more

Had mono a year ago, lymph nodes never shrunk. Got checked today ultrassound, largest one 2cm. Recurrent low grade fever. Mono back or Lymphoma?
Might need a biopsy: Chronic mononucleosis can be debilitating, so my thoughts are with you. However, enlarged lymph nodes can represent many different things, not just chronic mono. If your doctor believes that your blood work suggests something OTHER than chronic mono, then you might want to have a lymph node biopsied to be sure that there isn't something more serious lurking, such as lymphoma. ...Read more
Ct scan to investigate possible lyphoma came back normal but liver size was at top of normal size range. Shud I worry about this? Sign of lymphoma?
Probably not: The diagnosis of lymphoma is very complex and relies on a constellation of clinical signs and symptoms including unexplained weight loss, night sweats, lack of appetite, fatigue, progressively enlarging lymph nodes, progressively enlarging liver and/or spleen, etc., confirmed by biopsy. If none of these signs is present, the diagnosis is unlikely. Consulting your physician is recommended. ...Read more

Slightly movable lump, low back, left of spine. Feel more when bend over. Possibilities? Past Hodgkins lymphoma and have fibromyalgia w/back pain.
Bursa: It varies, and with your history I sure would recommend you being seen for it. That being said, there is a bursa that normally overlies each of the sacroiliac joints and it would likely be in the area you are describing. They can become enlarged when they become inflamed or when the SI joint is abnormal. It is not uncommon for patients to present to my office with that exact question. ...Read more

Scared of lymphoma. No swollen nodes per dr. Lost 15lbs in 1.5 months because of no appetite. Doc says it was dep/anxiety. On amitriptyline 10mg, appetite is back, not gaining/losing weight, lymphoma?
Diagnosing: I believe in doing a complete history and physical exam. Getting an impression. Then a plan. First a diagnostic plan which includes blood tests, x-rays, ct if I think it is necessary. Your physician knows you and perhaps she is aware that you have depression and anxiety. Hopefully you tell her about your diet and exercise. Perhaps that is why you are prescribed amitryptyline. Never assume. ...Read more
