Does Lupus Cause Pins And Needles Sensations
Classic lupus symptoms for 5 months but all tests negative also have raindrop sensations, dizziness, pins and needles, muscle weakness. Any ideas?
Trial of therapy: There are not a lot of things that look like classical lupus so if all the symptoms are there even with negative tests I would treat it and see if it gets better. Also there are things that can cause a lupus-like syndrome. Usually the cause is a medication like procainamide, hydralazine, or infliximab. The list of medications is extensive so google it if you take lots of medications. ...Read more

Can spironolactone cause tingling and pins and needles sensations in the legs, hands and toes? I've been taking 75mg daily for about 2 months.
Nerve compression: This is usually due to a disturbance of a nerve by compression from an external force or some internal dysfunction like a disc protrusion or swelling along the path of the nerve. Other causes include diabetes, and chemotherapy. Most can be stopped with massage or readjustment of the position of the involved limb. If persistent see your family doctor for analysis and treatment. ...Read more
Need more info: A whole host of things can cause this. Much more information would be needed to help determine the cause. For example is it more during the day or at night, which fingers. Etc. The most common causes for tingling in the upper extremities are peripheral neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, or a pinched nerve in the neck (radiculopathy). Though much more info would be needed... ...Read more

What can cause my face to have the sensation of pins and needles/ falling asleep. It happens on and off for years vitamin levels good.?
A nerve problem?: Pins and needles sensations are called paresthesias, and may be due to a nerve being irritated. A neurologist, an ENT surgeon, or a facial plastic surgeon can evaluate to see if the area involved is serviced by one particular nerve. These doctors know where the facial nerves travel, and may be able to tell if somewhere along the path there is compression by bone, muscle, scar tissue, etc... ...Read more
What can cause a weird sensation on both my feet, almost like foot fell asleep minus pins and needles?
Nerve compression: When your foot "falls asleep", what you are experiencing is a nerve compression. When symptoms are on both lower extremities, it could be coming from a disc bulge or compression in the lower back (l-s spine) called radiculopathy. It could stem from a systemic cause such as diabetes. If this is chronic and doesn't go away, you should see a neurologist or pain specialist for MRI or nerve testing. ...Read more

There has been a lot written about non-occupational risk factors for carpal tunnel syndrome. In one study out of boston about 11-12 years ago in fact it was determined that women who took birth control pills had an increased incidence of carpal tunnle compared to women who did not. The problem with a lot of studies is that while statistically it seems to implicate certain behaviors or co medical conditions or medications it doesn't help you as an individual trying to do what is right for yourself. Remember that a study like that offers guidance as a risk factor but may not imply a direct cause. There are a lot of coincidences too.
Tingling and numbness in the hand can be from carpal tunnel but aching, coldness can occur form that or other issues.
As far as stopping or starting birth control, talk with your doctor. Your neurologist should be able to clarify whether you have carpal tunnel or not and ifyou are not getting success with the treatment offered maybe you want to ask your neurologist about an emg/nerve conduction study or perhaps see a hand surgeon in your area.
If your curiuos you can look at the one of the styudies I am talking about, but none of these dtudies offer a direct cause and effect ie you can't say bcp lead to cts just that its been identified as a factor in this one study in this one population (the people studied). ...Read more
What would be the most sensible way to determine if tingling/pins and needles sensations are being caused by a B vitamin deficiency/toxicity?
Yes: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease is a progressive degenerative motor neuron disease. In 20-30% of the people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, initial onset of tingling, and paresthesia can proceed motor symptoms, without objective sensory loss on examination as part of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis-plus syndrome. ...Read more
