Can a stage 4 lung cancer in remission?

Can a stage 4 lung cancer in remission?

Not typical: Once lung cancer has become stage four it means that it has entered into the blood stream and begun showing up around the body in places other than the lung. Typically these go to the brain, bones, adrenal glands, and liver. Chemotherapy goes into the blood to shrink down and try to kill these cells but currently with consider this disease as treatable while not curable.

Cancer (Definition)

Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more

I have stage 4 lung cancer, is there any thoughts as being in remission or no cause I have it for life?

I have stage 4 lung cancer, is there any thoughts as being in remission or no cause I have it for life?

Lung cancer: Unfortunately, stage 4 lung cancer is almost always fatal. The average survival of people with stage 4 lung cancer who undergo chemotherapy is about a year. Some people live much longer than a year, but only rarely will someone live more than 3-5 years. Discuss your particular situation with your oncologist.

If a blood test is done and there is no detection of cancer, is it concluded that cancer is in remission? The type of cancer is lung cancer

If a blood test is done and there is no detection of cancer, is it concluded that cancer is in remission? The type of cancer is lung cancer

Discuss...: Your question is not exactly clear. "remission" is a term used to describe cancer that was diagnosed and after treatment or in unusual cases "spontaneously" is no longer clinically present. The "blood tests" currently marketed are used to "find" (screen) cancer. Tests like "early cdt" are generally inaccurate if you have already had a cancer. Not used to diagnose "remission".

Today my friend was told she will not go into remission. Dr.Will not do more chemo. Pain meds increased. Blood transfusion. Stage 4 lung cancer, mets. Hope?

Today my friend was told she will not go into remission. Dr.Will not do more chemo. Pain meds increased. Blood transfusion. Stage 4 lung cancer, mets. Hope?

Yes and No: Stage 4 lung cancer is an incurable type of cancer. Only about half of the patients respond to chemotherapy and that benefit lasts for no more than 6 to 12 months. That is about all one can do in the present state of cancer treatemnt. Once cancer has progressed despite chemotherapy it is good to seek palliative care/hospice care to help her to go through rest of her life with least bit of sufferin.

Have lung cancer but was in remission with lobectomy 4 yrs. Ago. Now new lesion on liver is this mets.?

Have lung cancer but was in remission with lobectomy 4 yrs. Ago. Now new lesion on liver is this mets.?

Work up required: There is a list of possible diagnoses for a new liver lesion, which includes recurrence and spread of your lung cancer, but also includes many other possibilities that are non-cancerous. A full-work up (a doctor's visit with interview, examination, and testing), possibly requiring biopsy, would be needed.

Needs to be checked: With your history of small cell cancer in remission, there are several possibilities, which may or may not be related to your cancer.

Not curable but...: There are some chemotherapy protocols that may give her a some good time. Make the most of whatever she has left. I'm sorry about your mom and hope that you will still find things to enjoy and to give meaning to this difficult time.

My friend has gotten lung cancer. Is he going to be okay?

Many variables: What type of cancer, usually small cell or non-small cell. How big is the cancer, and what stage is it? Has it spread anywhere? How health is your friend? Quite a wide range of questions. Small, early, cancers can be completely removed with surgery, with excellent prognosis.

Can you go from stage 4 lung cancer to stage 3 if you improve a bit?

Can you go from stage 4 lung cancer to stage 3 if you improve a bit?

Stage confusion: Stage and staging tells you where the cancer is, what the prognosis is, and what the treatment might be with options. You do not change stage once treatment begins. The tumor either responds or doesn't. Complete repsonse (? Remission in leukenmia?) is the goal, shrinkage is ok. The idea is that as long as the cancer responds, you stay on that regimen...Maybe.

University of Indian: The University of Indiana Medical center has a very good Cancer center, located in Indianapolis. You should go to the department of Medical Oncology and see an expert Lung cancer doctor (Larry Einhorn, MD is well known) or one of his colleagues who is a Medical Oncologist or Thoracic oncologist.

How do you get lung cancer? If you don't smoke? Myparents smoked, but I always hated the way the stuff smelled. When I got older, I made them go outside to smoke, and I haven't been around smokers in years. Sohow could I have lung cancer?

I: I agree with dr. Leeman's answer entirely. Clearly, the most common cause of lung cancer is due to cigarette smoking. As an added piece of information, exposure to radon gas, usually by way of poorly vented basements, is one of the more likely causes of lung cancer when smoking is not a factor. You live in cook county, illinois and in general, it is listed as a county with moderate potential for levels of radon (in the range of 2-4 pci/l). You may want to have your home assessed for radon levels and if they are elevated have a reputable radon mitigation company discuss options for your home - usually a simple venting system is all that is needed.

I have coughs that just won't go away. Is it an early sign of lung cancer? I have never smoked and I am 21 years old

Probably not: Lung cancer in non smokers your age is extremely rare. If the cough persists you should be evaluated by your primary care doctor and/or a pulmonary physician. There are many causes of persistent cough the vast majority of them are benign. If you cough up any blood you should certainly be evaluated by a pulmonary physician.

Wanted to know where can I go to get a lung cancer screening?

I-ELCAP Center: The I-ELCAP centers around the country and the world have extensive experience with the process of screening for lung cancer using low-dose CT scans. If one is not close to you it is preferable to go to a center which has experience with reading screening CT scans. However, at 37 youe do not reach the current guidelines for screening unless you have a very strong family history of lung cancer

How long do you have to live once lung cancer goes to the brain?

How long do you have to live once lung cancer goes to the brain?

Months: Median survival for all patients with brain metastases is 6 months. There are certainly lots of outliers on either side, with other factors helping to predict like overall burden of disease and general condition of the patient him- or herself. But even with the variation, survival beyond a year or so is not likely.

Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more
