Hard to guess: New throat pain can be strep throat (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antivirals may be used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (to see if a prescription is needed). With chills and lots of fatigue, it's more likely a flu-like illness or strep throat. ...Read more

Possibly: A 'cold' is caused by a viral infection. As your body mobilizes an immune response to that infection, it might decrease the response it is giving the ulcerative colitis. The response to uc is also an immune response to some degree. The medications you are on to treat the uc may also affect your response to a cold and vice versa. ...Read more

Can be either: But colds aren't usually accompanied by fever or sore throat/ muscle aches. At any rate looks like viral, so rest, fluids, salt water gargles, pain killers, if no improvement, see your doctor,, best wishes ...Read more

Mgt/workup: Sometimes during a viral illness there can be bleeding from small vessels which lining the nose, throat and airways. The blood may be from the uppper airway rather than the lungs. If it continues or increases, please have a medical evaluation and TB testing. Nasal saline, gentle nasal rinse and throat lozenges may alleviate the symptoms. ...Read more
