Cotton feeling throat and lungs. Cannot breathe in cold air cough like seal. When sleeping wake up coughing sometimes, is this asthma?

Maybe: Asthma symptoms are cough, wheeze, shortness of breath and/or chest tightness that is recurrent. It typically worsens at night and with exercise. There are multiple triggers including allergies, smoke/irritants and even acid reflux. An allergist or pulmonologist can perform a history, exam and lung function tests to help determine if asthma is the cause.

My 7 month old has been diagnosed with asthma, she has a cold now and all the congestion is making it harder to breathe. Hoe can I help, besides inhal?

Monitor closely: If you're infant is very congested, you should use saline to clear the upper airway of mucus and debris. Furthermore, use the albuterol breathing treatment provided and count the respiratory rate. If she is consistently breathing more than 40 to 50 times per minute, you should take her to the emergency department or her pediatrician for quick evaluation.

Go to ER....: It sounds like you are having an acute asthma exacerbation. With this much shortness of breath, you need to get treated ASAP before it gets any worse. Asthma attacks can become life-threatening so you don't want to stay home too long. If you don't have someone to drive you, call 911. While you are waiting for 911, try using your rescue inhaler, if you haven't already. But, get to the ER NOW!!!

I have to breathe in toxic air and I have asthma. How can I protect myself?

Smog?: If it is smog you are referring to, the obvious answer would be moving to a less polluted community. Given that this is not always possible, avoid living or exercising close to any major traffic areas especially freeways. There have been reports noting that living close to a freeway increases the risk for asthma. That you are at an AFB may increase your exposure to diesel particles.

My nose wheezes when I breathe in (inspire) can it be due to asthma?

No: More likely from nasal obstruction. If the wheeze is from the throat area, it is from the vocal cord. In asthma, the wheeze occurs when one breathes out.

Why do I wheeze when I breathe in? I have CHF and asthma. I don't wheeze breathing out.

Why do I wheeze when I breathe in? I have CHF and asthma. I don't wheeze breathing out.

Wheezing: Wheezing on inspiration generally follows wheezing on expiration. It maybe your breathing on expiration is so severe the wheezing can't be heard. This is caused by air trapping. Make sure you have good care and take all your medicine. All the best.

I think I have asthma. Never diagnosed by a doctor. I have a sharp pain, like a pin stick, when I breathe in. It is very uncomfortable. Any ideas?

Painful breathing: By definition, you have pleurisy which means pain with breathing. There are numerous causes and while some who have asthma have chest discomfort-pain is not a typical symptom.

There: There are mainly possible causes of this which could range from mild (panic attack, inflammation of the cartilage of the chest wall) to very serious (blood clot in the lungs, heart attack, asthma flare up, etc.). I would consider visiting your primary care physician or local emergency room for further evaluation as soon as possible.

When I breathe in or out I can feel a rattle deep in my throat. This does make me cough. I have asthma. My vocal range is also very limited now.?

When I breathe in or out I can feel a rattle deep in my throat. This does make me cough. I have asthma. My vocal range is also very limited now.?

See below: Coughing alone will give you hoarseness. Control the asthma, make sure that you don't have acid reflux or postnasal drip. The rattle is probably secretions from asthma or sinus problems. All of these should go away with proper treatment. If not, consult ent. And of course quit smoking if you do.

Painful to breathe in, cough, some sputum, extremely tired, asthma (ventolin not helping), no other cold/flu symptoms (runny nose) on advair.??

See doctor now: Your asthma appears to be reaching crisis level and likely require systemic cortisone. See your doctor today or go to the nearest urgent care if you can't get an appt. Do not delay even for another second.

Why I almost faint when I inhale my asthma pipe very deep and then hold my breath for a while. Is it normal?

Why I almost faint when I inhale my asthma pipe very deep and then hold my breath for a while. Is it normal?

Oxygenation: As you hold your breath the level of oxygen begins to drop in your blood and the carbon dioxide begins to rise which can cause you to feel lightheaded. Also holding your breath can trigger a reflex called the vagal response that can lower your blood pressure and heart rate also causing you to feel like you might faint.

Can you have allergic asthma with no wheezing or cough? I breathe normal but something doesn't feel right when I inhale in my chest. Been checked and heart and lungs are normal. I also have a stuffy nose at night.

Can you have allergic asthma with no wheezing or cough? I breathe normal but something doesn't feel right when I inhale in my chest. Been checked and heart and lungs are normal. I also have a stuffy nose at night.

Asthma: Simply means "inflamed" lower airways, can be allergic or non-allergic, and yes it can happen without wheezing/cough, just chest tightness. Whether you have asthma or not, you need to be evaluated for your symptoms by an asthma specialist, you may not have the condition. spirometry, sort of lung function testing, or methacholine challenge may be needed. See an allergist or a pulmonologist, good luck

When its hard to breathe in is it astma? Or hard to breathe out?

When its hard to breathe in is it astma? Or hard to breathe out?

Asthma: Typically it is a disease that causes air trapping that makes it difficult to breathe out. If the asthma is more severe, both breathing in and out are difficult. All the best and be seen if you are experiencing breathing difficulty.

When I run for a short distance it gets hard to breathe. Does this mean I have asthma?

Maybe (not). . .: Lots of reasons for "hard to breathe" w/activity. Asthma is a common one but so is being out of shape. Some heart conditions can cause this, too. So can smoking! bottom line, go see your family doc for an evaluation. Pulmonary function test (pft) can formally measure breathing. Once you're given the green light, then get active every day and push yourself just a bit more each time.

I have asthma and when I take a hot shower when im done its hard to breath and I get dizzy bout to pass out and sometimes I do why is that?

Not sure: Could be a number of things. Hot showers can cause your blood vessels to dilate and your blood pressure to drop. This can cause fainting. Maybe inhaling too much steam can be the cause as well for your breathing episodes.
